I am going to be in Athens for the week fo the 15th for work. I was wondering if anyone had recomendations for good BBQ joints in the area.

No recommendations on BBQ, but, a double cheese burger from BJ's snack shop is a must!

Thanks, I will check it out. Google tells me there are about 6 joints in a ring around where I am staying that are all about 30 min away. Sounds like one per night and BJ's for lunch; I will report back with reviews. And yes there are people who live in Wisconsin who can and know BBQ (although it is just me and this guy I know from Texas).

Micheals is pretty good. It is on Hwy 11 just south of Lowes. It is probably some of the best BBQ you will get around here. Their smoked Prime Rib is awesome!

I second BJs snack bar...they have good burgers and good hot-dogs.

Where are you going to be staying?
There really isnt much to do around here...I would recommend a trip to Benton if you have never been to the gun store there.

If you don't mind a 30 minute drive on I-75 S, come on down to Cleveland. There are a couple of decent BBQ places around. Jordan's BBQ is pretty good, as is Shane's Rib Shack.
