Hey guys, I was hoping for some help. My girlfriend and I are driving from Portland to Charlotte, NC starting on Thursday evening. I've wanted to do a sage rat hunt, and for some reason my girlfriend said that we could fit this into our trip. Probably Friday or Saturday.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to where to go? Ideally, I would rather not spend $600 on a guided hunt. I don't think my girlfriend will even want to shoot.

I haven’t seen many rats up yet. The problem you’re going to run into is that they are mostly found on private property in the pivots. Or at least that’s where you can set up and hunt them easily.

I was just doing some Binging, and that's what came up for a 4-person hunt, but I don't have four people. I have like 1.2 people.

It's not what it used to be sadly.
Stopped going years back due to it turning into more of an organized money maker then an agreement between farmer and shooter.

Hopefully someone will chime in with more current info for you.

The rats came out today in our fields. However, it is all based on ground temp. You go to another area still asleep.

I appreciate all your responses. I made it out there, but I ended up not bringing my rifle. The whole drive through Eastern Oregon, I looked and didn't see anything, so I was happy I didn't miss out. It seemed like it was too cold. I did see a hawk catch something, but that was about it.

Bend is such a cool city. We had a blast the two days we spent driving through.
