It's pretty typical for people (kids) to destroy a motor that is already half dead. (IE: broken apex seals on one rotor)

This guys car didn't die and the video is very misleading.. However the fire in the mufflers should give you an idea of exhaust temperatures from these motors. It's not unheard of seeing an N/A rotary in the 1800-1950F range.

I am going to post a "sucessful" attempt and popping a motor as soon as it finishes uploading to google video, I know these guys personally.

Note that they forgot to put the radiator cap back on when they did this, if there was one put on they could have set a brick on the gas pedal and went to lunch. You'll know when it lets a coolant seal go due to the geyser of coolant shooting out
