EK, maybe. If Bend or Ghostring ever come in here, they would be the ones to check that out.
I also remember a few pits out Camp Sherman way, I think on Forest Service land. |
I'm in.
I know a few places. Good excuse to get away for a weekend and take some pics. CH |
Hey, I wander in here every so often...!
The COSSA range might work, but I've only been to the public part. There are a few clean gravel pits out in the desert that I like going to... if anyone wants to come out for a little recce, gimme a buzz! |
I haven't done true desert camping in 20+ years. That would be pretty fun. +1 for the desert. |
COSSA is pretty much booked year around especially on weekends. Also, tannerite (sp) would probably be a no-no.
However, there is a piece of BLM land southwest of COSSA that is easy to get to yet still remote. It has a hill side to shot into and ranges up to 300 yards. It also has a fairly flat area for camping. I'll get with GhostRing and scout it again. |
If you can, an address or lat/long so we can google it. |

Here is where you can find the Google Earth blobology-
Golden Basin: 43-54-49.44 121-06-22.21 ETA: better coords to Stookey Flats: 43-54-33.11 121-05-54.87 |
Thanks much. Now if I can just get Google Earth to actually work for me.
ETA links to google maps: Golden Basin Stookey Flat Interesting bowl formation.... ETA: Update with better coords. |

I know of a nice spot in Chehalis, WA. It's not very central to the state, but people have driven all the way from Idaho and Southern Oregon.
Don't be forgetting about the sexy gal who came all the way from New Jersey to attend a LCR (and stuff). |
Ah yes! We've even had <<twitch>> Texans show up! |
? an Orygunianite HTF shoot in Chehalis (North Orygun) ? w00t !
Hey Phil, I don't know if our Oregon cousins are quite ready for Dolly, yet , don't want to scare them off, do ya? |
WA = No happy switch and no hush hush... That makes cape hunter sad.
I said a gal not a farm animal! |
Yea, but he knew what you really ment! |

Them WA boys is baaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaa baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaddddd

Happy Switch + Hush Hush = Nobody gots ta know! |

until the JBT pops out from behind a bush or something. |

I know about 8K acres of open land that's available. A bit east of your circled area.
*ETA* Cape, how about Boyce Corral? |
If we are planning on an overnighter, how about a coyote/rabbit hunt? Maybe out Patty's way; this Spring.
Having never been on a hunt (don't even start), I give that one a big +2. |
The areas south and east of the ones already posted along Hwy 20 wouldn't be that bad. But, if it were me, I'd drive the other hour and half to Warner Valley and really put the hurt to them |
Over Central OR way, there is a nice big, gravel pit located at Pistol Butte. It is located
a couple miles north of South Century Drive. The South Centruy drive turnoff is 13 miles west of Hwy 97. It's a nice secluded location and has accomodated my tannerite entertainment quite nicely. For the fly fisherman in the HTF, the pit is a couple miles from Fall River. Spambo |
So, that's only a few miles north or so of Lapine? |
Hun I may be a redneck, but a corral? Lets just stick to the hotel! |
Ya gotta do 'em 4 times a year or it ain't worth going! ETA: Nevermind, you guys have all that Class III stuff, that's a LOT of ammo |
No one asked, but my vote goes to Patty's place. It may be a little further, however, private property has overwhelming advantages compared to public property in doing what Arfcomers do.
As the crow flies, the pit is probably 7-10 miles from LaPine but there is no direct routes unless you know the fire break roads. If you look at a map, the turnoff(unmarked road) is approximately 13 miles west of Hwy 97 on South Century drive. Spambo |

If I can find the time (and cash) I would be up for that. |
Bump back to page one, instead of a tack. Any central area hunters keeping an eye out?
That place looks great! Let's pick a date and I'm there for sure.
As for the 4x4 friendliness, I am willing to shuttle people back and forth or possibly bring a flat bed trailer if needed. I'm sure we can work something out for the small car people. |
Don't worry, this is my next truck: Is that Cape in the foreground? |
Ahh isnt that cute... Uncle ted would be proud! Oh, dont forget a phone book so you can see over the dash! Seriously that would be a cool truck to have! Minus the zebra stripes! |

I have land in the Fossil area. Not sure if that helps or not. My ranch is a 3 hour drive from PDX. Boyce Corral is inbetween Madras and Prineville. Its closer to Madras.
Patty |
thats about half way between you and me.... |
As Bend stated, private property would be the best... and Madras is right down the street! I would be more than happy to help out with whatever needs helpin' out... And for any of you lowridin' car types, swing by my shop for some skidplating and underbody armor...I'll make Rally drivers out of you yet! |
soooo, depending on location......are Warshingtonians welcome?
