I had some questions about how the shotgun stages would be for the PR match. So, I wrote randy. Here is his reply.

1. I think this year we will emphasize buckshot and slugs.  There will be a birdshot stage, too, but not mixed with the buck and slugs.  (You must shoot the same shotgun on all shotgun stages.)

2. Buckshot and birdshot stages will be close and any high capacity shotgun should do fine.  You will need to know where your slugs hit at different yardages.  I always go with the Benelli M-1 Super 90.  It always works for me.

3.  No class distinction.  Those who shoot well end up near the top.  Those who need more practice end up near the bottom.  It's not the gun, it's the person behind the gun.

I'm not going to have a problem with shotgun portion of the match.. Going to the Shotgun Match helped me alot. especially going to the match shortly after buying my first shotgun. Awesome learning experience.

Hopefully 5 round magazines will be enough. I couldn't bring myself to buy those two foot long stick reloaders the gamers had last year. I shot pretty good last year but the 5 round magazine capacity and the slow by hand reloads meant I was bottom of the pack, despite what Randy says in comment #3.

That's like putting an E0-tech thingy on a civil war blackpowder musket.  Do they make a M4 stock adaptor for an 1860 Springfield?

I'll be there, Mossy 590 in hand!  And Gunkata are you going to the next TCGC Shotgun match?  (would that be the same as the 3-gun matches?  I don't see "Tactical Shotgun" anywhere on the TCGC website).

I am going to try to make it, I love shooting the shotgun!

I never used to understand why folks would pay so much for a VLTOR stock.  Now I do! :-)
It works great on the S12.

EDIT:  Forgot to add, the VLTOR AK adapter lets you preserve the tang.

The shot gun matches were held by the guys that did regular 3 gun matches.. His name is Gary. but they did 2 shotgun Only matches where I was able to participate without IPSC cert. Just like PR with obsticals and high round counts.

Note to Tango Foxtrot: 5 round mags are fine, you just have to learn to speed load your shells. Something Randy taught me at the first match i went to and he was in my Squad. Been doing it ever since and it's simple like that 2 foot loader thing but don't need to waste any money.

I'm hoping to get my Form 4 papers through so I can run my Fireball Saiga-12 as well.

But my mags are bigger than yours.

also note. Saiga 12 is cool but if there is a single round load and shoot stage you will be dead in the water. Every shotgun match i've been to there is one of those and usually "Red Neck Bowling" Saiga will not work on that. I'm happy with pump shotty. NOT saying there is a single shot stage but you never know so bring a regular and the Saiga to be safe.

Yes it will. Works just like an autoloader. Pull bolt back, shove in shell, close.

Not as nice as a semi in that view, but what do you thing the 1100's, 11-87's etc. do?

Shame it won't be a night match!

I refuse to pay the 8-round mag highway robbery prices.  Maybe someone will get off their butt
and actually produce the 8-10 rounds mags they've been talking about since last September.

Nope, no problems with single-round loads.  Just pull back the action and load a round.  I've seen
me do it!

If I had to shoot the match today I'd probably use my 870, 7+1 rounds.  I'm used to it and I
know I can hit with slugs.  I haven't put ANY slugs through my S12 yet.... yet.  Unfortunately, I'm
typically booked up on Saturdays, but I hope that changes this summer.

Yeah, I picked up my 8-rounders for about $65/mag.

Oh you will see when you are being timed if you have to do single.. Even the Benelli boys have some time.. it's 3 motions then fire for Semi shotties and 2 motions then fire for Pump.. Pump = drop rack forward and then you are already in firing position... If you were in a side by side comparison I'd shoot a round before you finish loading your chamber. Seen it first hand. thank you.

It's Practical Rifle 3-gun. Not a shotgun-only sport. Heard it first hand. thank you.

Reading is fundamental.
