thought about going to the IPSC class so you can draw from a holster? Class is the same day as the sniper match but in the pistol pit class room. Cost is $30 for non TCGC members and free to members. IM me (w/ your email) if you want the contact info for the class you have to register with Fred.

I'm also thinking about doing this rather than doing the sniper match.

I'd like to have a whole lot more practice before "competing" and this would give me access to the "action range".

That is so true I really like the action pits.

Well, the nice thing is that you don't have a target 25 yards away. Some guys can cut out the X with a .45, I more or less shotgun the thing. Now granted, I need to practice, but 25 yards is a ways away for my purposes. The only place I can get closer at TCGC is in the Action Pits.

Hmmm...I wonder if you can use steel on your "unsupervised" own?

ACTION RANGE

1. Eye and ear protection is recommended.

2. Only TCGC members who have successfully completed the Safety Certification course are permitted unsupervised use of this range.  An uncertified guest may practice on this range if directly supervised by a Safety Certified member.  Safety Certified members may have more than one guest, but only one uncertified guest at a time may be shooting.

3. Pistols, pistol caliber carbines, pistol caliber rifles, and shotguns may be used on this range.  All rifle-caliber firearms are prohibited.

4. No loaded firearms except on the firing line.

5. Paper, cardboard and approved metal targets may be used on this range.  Other targets approved for matches on this range may be used for practice if approved by the Activity Chairman and cleaned up after use.

6. Props are not to be used as target holders.

7. All shooting must be deliberate, aimed fire.  Targets must be placed so that all rounds and shotgun shot fired are safely contained within the shooting bay.

So basically you could do your own "2-gun" pistol and shotgun match in your bay.

No, every time I've been in there the RO has come by, checking for the IPSC sticker.

Oh, I know that. But if you take this class, you get the sticker. I was just wondering AFTER the class if we could put a dueling tree out there or something. Much more enjoyable.

The last time I used the pits some of them had a dueling trees and some had some speed steel stands. Has this changed?

I don't think they're supposed to be left out. Kinda like PR where you put them back in the container after you're done.

Hmmm, 1x scope + $20 fee = no sniper match for me.

Probably won't do the IPSC thing, but will show to watch the festivities. BSW

I think i'd be down as well.. i'm in the same boat as boo here.. and by damnit i'm not going to be the only one runing an Iron Sighted Mauser at a sniper match...

but it deffently sounds like fun and it would allow us as a group to do some cool stuff in the pistol pits..

So this is on February 11th and 12th?  I've been meaning to go do this and I actually have that weekend off.  For some reason I thought IPSC was the first weekend of every month.

yes you can, lots of people compete there but aren't members.

you need to be certified to shoot IPSC and for the Tactical Matches.

Okay, so I got the e-mail. Does this mean I'm registered, or do I need to write/call Fred?

Also not mentioned. Do we need to bring our own pistols for the last section?

Ok i sent my e-mail off well yesterday now..

I was wondering does IPSC also work for a CHL class? considering the requirements of getting your CHL??

just a thought it would be cool to kill two birds with one stone..

The IPSC Cert class is 2 days. You take the class one day, then have to shoot a match without DQing to get your sticker. Normally it is the day after the class. I think if you make arrangements beforehand you can take the class one weekend then shoot the match later in the month. You have to pay the entrance fee for the match also, so it's not really free for members.

Email Fred to get into the class and yes bring your own pistol, ammo, mags and holster, no drop legs though.

Yah, Fred emailed me and ask what the hell was going on? The class is now full so everyone else will have to sign up for another month. Fred said that March was filling up fast.

Cool See you & FIL in class.

Let me guess, you'll be the bad boy with the father figure in the front of the class and I'll be the four-eyed-geek. I bet the FIL will be teacher pet. you know to old farts.
