I was going down Western Ave in Beaverton (35 mph zone)  and passed a police photo "radar" van in the bushes.  I was going below the limit, so I didn't get photoed, but my radar/laser detector didn't go off.  I have an Escort that has been serving me well for the past 5 years.  I've noticed detector still goes off when I pass a Beaverton police car, but not at the van.

A new kind of radar/laser or some new type of remote sensing?  Just curious.  I've been reading about pure video analysis systems where the video image is analyzed for speed and velocity.  Maybe they have one of these now.  A year ago these systems were very expensive and only the military could afford them.

Cop was busy eating dougnuts and not operating the laser.

It used to be Oregon law that a cop had to watch the van/car for the ticket to be valid. I don't know if this is still the case.

So, if the cop ain't there, the van is "off".

uh....  since you were going under the speed limit, the guy probably didn't turn it on.

Then how did my speed show up on the reader board?  They must have measured my speed some how.

It happened today again.  This time they were on Scholls Ferry Rd.  Measured my speed accurate to 1 mph.

What technology are they using?  I need to understand it.

It showed your speed and you didn't get an indication?  shit man, you got me.   I thought you just went past the radar van and the radar wasn't on...

they put these cool traffic counters in my neighborhood that use magnetic sensors.  Just a little box they put in the side of the road.  they count number of cars, direction, and speed and they don't do anything but measure the amount of metal passing by.  Never seen them used by the police.

could have been laser,  just not aimed at you.  or maybe time for a new valentine-1.

Couldn't it just be laser? I thought Passports only pick up radar.

I don't know about you, but I wish the police would worry less about speeders and more about the meth heads. Like the Ones Fox Trot was talking about. Seems like they need to prioritize differently. I see speed traps constantly in Beaverton.
