I'll update this original post with suggestions as we get them.

The bourbon scene has really been on fire for a couple of years now. There are some absolutely great values out there right now, and there is some over-priced swill. I'm going to use this thread to help keep options current. Also, feel free to share any "steals and deals". Also, feel free to put notice out on purveyors who price gouge popular bottles.

Current on hand bottles.  My goal is to buy 1 new bottle I haven't tried every time I go to the bottle shop.

This is good stuff:

I’ve heard that Ezra Brooks is great. I do know the Henry McKenna 10 hits way above its price range if you can find it at retail around $50.

I’ve never had the Koval, but Widow Jane 10 at $79 is completely legit. Great juice.

In the $75 range I'm a big fan of the Jeffersons Ocean voyages.

Early Times Bottled in Bond 100 proof, $26
Wild Turkey 101, under $35
ASW Fiddler, $35-40
Makers Mark Cask strength (various proofs, depending on barrel) $45-65
Knob Creek 100, $35-40

That's all I can think of off top of my head

Woodford Reserve $35 and up depending on what you want.
1792 Bourbon $35.

I'm still partial to Jim Beam also. YMMV.

Now you've done it... Jim Beam Repeal Batch Bourbon. It should be right next to the regular cheap bottle of beam white and only $3 more. Tastes way better than plain beam. Get one before hipsters drive the price up.

We havent discussed ultra cheap bourbon yet so I'll introduce one. Rebel Yell is $18 a 750mL local to me. It's pretty decent as a mixer and I drink it straight occasionally. Surprisingly decent.

I’ll add an under $20 category later today and add both of those suggestions.

Evan Williams by the handle. Age it with your own charred oak.

Easily as good as 90% of the stuff on this list.

I’m aging some white dog as we speak but I’m really trying to find some old school corn “likker” to branch out with recipes

Y'all remind me why we did this.  The house we recently bought had this giant clock on the wall that didn't work (actually I think the batteries are dead).  So we decided just to set it at 5 o'clock and leave it like that.

Ironically I really don't like the taste of most alcohol so I rarely drink.  Still, I'm a big fan of Jimmy Buffett and Alan Jackson and I love margaritas so it's always 5 o'clock in our house lol.

Wilderness Trail falls in the $35 to $75 category.  I've had both the Small Batch and the 6-year old, both very good.  My local watering hole has added Barrell to their shelf, they are above the $75 threshold if you buy at the liquor store, but that are pretty damn good.  I think they are getting a lot of Internet hype so prices are high, but if you get the chance, give it a whirl, it's good stuff.

Clever. I like it. Life gave you lemons, and you made lemonade. Give me lemons, and I’m making whiskey ?? sours.

Is Bulleit Bourbon Frontier whiskey good, bad or somewhere in between?  The previous owner of our house left us a bottle and we've never tried it.  Came in a kind of cool bag called a Lewis bag.  Supposedly it's some kind of special edition but that doesn't mean it's drinkable lol.

Generally if we (mostly my sis, not me) drink whiskey it's Jim Beam Devil's Cut but we also drink Buffalo Trace on occasion.  The Bulleit Bourbon Frontier has just been sitting there.

It's decent at it's price point.  I think a 1.5L is right around $45.  I usually have a bottle of it laying around.

I know it's sacrilege to you guys but if I'm drinking whiskey it's got enough coke mixed in to cover most of the taste

Then again, I've probably never tasted "good" whiskey.

Taste is subjective. I can tell you what kind of barrel it was bottled in and how old it is with whiskey, but wine I am totally lost. I still mix coke with bourbon sometimes all the time.

I’ll have to look up pricing.
Bulleit 95 rye
Legends 100 made in Cumming is good which is a small barrel. Legends gold label is awful
Breckinridge reserve blend from Colorado
Jack Daniels single barrel
ASW fiddler made in Cumming is very good as previously mentioned.
Basil Hayden’s
Whistle pig rye 12 yr cask finish
The last 2 are my wife’s favorite

I have bought but not tried
Uncle nearest 1884 small batch
Hatozaki small batch Japanese whiskey
Skrewball peanut butter whiskey
Heaven hill 7 year straight bourbon

I buy all my bourbon once a year except for the local distillery stuff.
I’m a Christmas baby and my birthday present to myself is going to the Costco Alpharetta late November- early December and doing a bourbon run.  That usually involves purchasing some odd stuff as well as my go to staples

I guess I am a cheap skate, everything I have on hand and regularly buy is in the under $45 range. I splurge occasionally but I am convinced the point of diminishing returns occurs around $40, most everything above that mark is more hype than substance with a few notable exceptions.

Wild Turkey 101 is now my go-to "cheap" bourbon. Man it's tasty neat, rocks, or in an Old Fashioned. The WT Rare Breed is really good, too, but I don't think it's $28 per fifth better than the WT101. I'm getting WT101 for $22, and Rare Breed is $50.
