I will be conducting a 2-day Precision Rifle course at the Elk River Training Center in Pelham TN on July 27-28 (Saturday & Sunday).  I am limiting this class to 10 students.

Day 1 will be my Basic Precision Rifle, while Day 2 will be my Intermediate Precision Rifle, both courses which I have been Instructing for years.  I will be running a smaller Urban Sniper class at the same location in late August, this will be the perfect build-up for that.

DAY 1:
Class will start at 0800hrs CST and run until approximately 1700hrs CST.

Topics covered will include (but aren't limited to):
-Selection, care and maintenance of the entire system (rifle, scope, rings, mounts, ammunition, bipod, cases, etc.). This includes a comprehensive disassembly and other Armorer's tips.
-Marksmanship basics
-Use of a mil-based or other ranging reticle for ranging unknown distance targets
-Use of optics (including adjustments and all other functions)
-Use of data book
-Zeroing (at the end of the course, you will have dope for every 50 yards from 100 yards to 600 yards)
-CCB/CHB/HFB

Other than confirming 100yd zeroes, all targets will be reactive steel.


DAY 2:
Class will start at 0800hrs CST and run until approximately 1700hrs CST.

The name of the game on Day 2 is repeatable, 1MOA or better accuracy.  All the classroom and fundamentals were taken care of on Day 1, Day 2 is all about precision shooting.  All targets are reactive and approximately 1MOA in size (1" at 100yds, 2" at 200yds, 4" at 400yds, etc).  I will work with each shooter to get them squared away, problems identified and fixed, so that by the end of the day they are consistently hitting 1MOA targets.  We will shoot to a minimum of 600yds.

We will shoot in 2 relays, so one relay can learn the proper techniques that a Spotter needs to assist the Shooter.


Gear list will include:
Rifle capable of 1MOA. Bolt actions and semi-automatics are both welcome
Quality optics. The following features are mandatory on the optic:
-Finger adjustable turrets with audible/tactile “clicks”, MOA or mil are fine
-Ranging reticle, mil or MOA based are both acceptable
Ammunition, 200 rounds. Ammunition must be "match grade" from a reputable manufacturer, or known handloads of equal or better accuracy.  NO STEEL CORE AMMO
Data book w/ calculator (any calculator that multiplies and divides will work. I highly recommend the Storm Tactical modular Rite-in-the-rain databooks)
Rifle-mounted bipod, or front rest
Rear bag(s) (optional)
Shooting mat (optional)
I would prefer that you have 5 dummy rounds or snap caps, but they are not required
Spotting scope (optional)
Eye and ear protection
Clothes and footwear appropriate to the weather. If it rains, we train, as long as there is no thunder/lightning.
If you are military/LE, it is preferred that you use your duty gear, body armor and other ancillary equipment that you will use on duty. Train like you fight!

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. If you plan on using a rifle other than a bolt action tactical or varmint model from Remington, Savage, Winchester, FN, or a custom-built rifle, or a quality semi-auto (LaRue OBR, JPE, accurized M1A, etc)

and/or

a scope made by other than Nightforce, Leupold, US Optics, IOR, Schmidt & Bender, Premier Reticles, Vortex Viper PST, Bushnell Elite series or Sightron SIII you must contact me so that we can discuss your system and make sure that it will meet the requirements of the course. You don't have to spend triple digits for a good scope. If you're curious about what to buy, or if the scope you already have will work, just give me a holler.

2. Your system must be fully assembled and sighted in with a recent 100 yard zero prior to the class. The zero must be done with the ammunition that you will be using in the class. I offer my services for free to any of my students who need assistance with any rifle or optics work, or zeroing, that they may need, prior to the class. Give me a holler and we'll get together and get you zeroed prior to the class.

3. Ammunition must be “match grade” from a known manufacturer, or handloads that you have shot out of the rifle you are bringing to the class and are sure of their accuracy.

4. A bipod or ruck to shoot off, as well as a rear bag. For a bipod, I highly recommend the Harris BRM-S (6”-9”, notched leg, swiveling). If you wish to purchase a rear bag, excellent models are available from Gunner's Gear

5. If you don't have some sort of adjustable cheekpiece, or cheekpad, I recommend one. The comb of your stock needs to be high enough that your cheek bone rests on it naturally when you have a perfect sight picture, not your jawbone or the middle of your cheek. Ask several of my former students and they'll tell you this makes a HUGE difference. I have adjustable cheekpieces that I can install during the class. The "strap on" cheekpieces made by Eagle, Blackhawk, LBT, etc., work just fine. If all else fails, several layers of mousepad and tape work as well as anything!

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about any of your gear. I would rather sort the problems out ahead of time than have you show up at the class with gear that won't work, or that is set up wrong. I am not trying to exclude folks that don't already own Tier 1 equipment; I am trying to head problems "off at the pass" so that you can get the most out of the class and shooting, and not spend all day trying to fix your gear.

I will reiterate, I offer my services for free to students when it comes to putting together and/or zeroing your rifle system, mounting up scopes/bases/rings (including lapping the rings), weighting and texturing stocks, and any other tweaking that your system may need. There ain't much that I can't do, or have done for you.

I have a couple of excellent rifles chambered in .308 that are available for rent for the class. You rent the rifle and supply the ammo. Both are custom rifles with top of the line optics and shoot exceptionally well.

At the end of the course, you will receive a certificate of completion.

I am a Georgia POST certified Instructor. If you are a GA LEO, you will receive POST credit for this class.
