Pics from the aftermath of one of my hunting trips. The guy holding the gun was etexer BTW: there are 5 tax stamps involved in the pics, and each gun was used to kill a hog.      TRG |

Are there farmers out that way that BEG you to come shoot all the piggies?
What cans are you using and how quiet are they? That is a LONG 9mm barrel.

I was asked by the landowner to 'kill them. kill them all.' I am using a Triple X Warrior on the 9mm. An AWC Raider on the 5.56 (M16) and a 'Can made by NFA_Investments on the 22LR. About the long barrel. That 16" 9mm is a hard hitting SOB. I use 147 grain bullets and they will almost 'cloverleaf' at 75yds in a 3 shot group. That lower (on the 9mm) is a registered SBR. I have 5.5" barrel ready for it, and a flattop RRA ordered. It will be my 'Poor Man's MP5 SD when it is in it's final configuration, and sitting atop the '16. TRG |

147 grain. winchester. TCMC 10.95 per 50 at Wal-mart. Stays subsonic from the 16" barrel, and hits HARD. It does not expand, and tends to break alot of bones. The light colored sow was hit in teh top of her back, and the round exited through her ribs on her chest. (I think) That 147 gain bullet has taken almost as many hogs as any other round recently. Whats the deal with Georgia? Do they do that there too? Georgia is just up the street from me and a lot closer than Texas. What is the average cost of a day of hog slaying? |

You should try hunting northern boars...this one soaked up 5 rounds of #4 buck before he went down...about 20 feet from the guy who shot him. When he hit him with the first round the pig turned and charged him.
 Those Texas pigs wouldn't even make good back bacon...

That's a mean looking hog. He might have had 3 or 4 layers of ice on him that you had to bust through. Looks awful cold there. If memory serves me correct, I scraped frost 3 times this past winter. On the other hand. I bet you don't have the sand gnats that we do in SE GA.

It was my first time hunting them..a truly unforgetable experience. Actually that was a beautiful day..not to cold, not a lot of snow in the woods. You can keep your sand gnats...I'll take tripping over small trees with snow shoes on instead.

I bet it was unforgetable. That hog has a lot more hair than those Texas hogs and a pretty good size tusk sticking out.
I need to get out in the Palmettos and see if I can't bust a few. I'll be tripping over rattlesnakes.

We got to hunt it for free. It "escaped" from the guy that was running a hog hunting farm. The DNR guys were on him to catch it or kill it. The top tusks were approx 6" long from the base to the tip and razor sharp. |

I don't recommend hunting a boar with buckshot. a pellet is just too small to insure good penetration without hittin a gut. TRG |

When I hunted hogs in Karnes Co, TX we always used dogs to corner and catch the hog, then we put a 12" blade in behind his shoulder blade.
Sure made good eating. Those shoats would probably yeild some good baby backs if they were just a wee bit oder. |
