*****ATTN : NEW DATE*****
Due to sceduling conflicts, we are pushing the match out one week. We apologize for the change, but hope that the extra time will give some of you more time to plan on attending the match, and some of you more time to practice. The next Tactical Rifle Match will be held on February 25, 2006 at the Carolina Star ( www.carolinastar.com ). Registration will begin at 0800, with a safety briefing at 0815, and shooting to begin immediately thereafter; come prepared to shoot. This will be a shooters match, consisting of four COF's with a minimum round count of 80, so bring lot's of ammunition. The targets will consist of bowling pins, steel plates and standard IDPA targets. The reactive targets will be scored up / down, and the IDPA targets will require a minimum of two scoring rounds. All COF's will be shot "Vickers Count" unless otherwise noted (Shoot till you're happy. ) The fee for the match will be $20. The first COF will be a modified "El Prez" drill utilizing three IDPA targets at seven to ten yards. This stage will require multiple magazine changes and head shots. It ought to get everybody warmed up. The second COF will be our barricade stage. The shooter will be required to engage reactive targets and IDPA silhouettes from a barricade position. Distance to targets for this stage will be forty yards. There should be enough "friendly faces" to make things interesting. The third COF will be our distance stage. The shooter will be required to engage reactive targets and IDPA silhouettes from various shooting positions. Distance to targets for this stage will range from fifty to two hundred yards. The fourth stage will be our Shoot House. Targets will be placed from "across the room" to CQB/CONTACT/POWDER BURN distances. Kick in the door, negotiate the house, engage the targets; it doesn't get any better than that. As usual our standard rules apply: 1) NO STEEL CORE OR AP AMMUNITION IS ALLOWED ON THE RANGE. If there is any question, don't bring it. 2) One Gun - One Optic. Our matches are shot open class, with the only restriction being that the competitor must use the same weapon, in the same configuration throughout the entire match. Gun failures / malfunctions will be handled at the discretion of the RO. There will be guns and gear available for those that need them. We ask that you provide new, commercial .223 ammunition for use in these weapons. This will be a very good match, but depending on the turn-out could run longer than usual. Please bring drinks / snacks as you see necessary. Please contact me with any questions. Hope to see you there! - Russell |

You and your weapon are welcome at the match. We shoot open class. Over the years, we've seen that equipment matters very little, and sometimes it just gets in the way. The worst beating I ever took was from an excellent shooter with a stock M14 shooting factory ammunition. We take a great deal of pride in designing stages that don't provide a favorable equipment advantage over the course of a match. In other words, the guy with the ACOG may have a better run at the distance stage, but he'll be slower in the shoot house. It's also another reason we require the competitor to use a single rifle, and maintain that firearm in the same configuration throughout the match. In other words, the guy with the ACOG won't be switching to an Aimpoint for the CQB stage. We actually try to insure a fairly level playing field, without having to break everything up into different classes. Hope to see you at the match! |

Is this an acceptable thing to get started on, as a first tactical match?
Also, is the M855/M193 stuff considered steel core? Should I start loading something else? |
Everything we do is very straight forward; new shooters won't have any problems at our matches. The only advice that I can give is to take your time and make your shots; your score will be higher and you'll have a much better time. Let the RO know that it's your first match; they'll make sure you understand everything, and assist you in shooting the course. The M193 is acceptable, but the M855 (green tip) has a steel penetrator, and can damage the plates, so we do not allow it on the range. |
Are there mandatory magazine changes on stages?
(I'd like to use my Beta-C and I don't drop it...) I'm used to IPSC where there usually isn't one... |
Yes, there are mandatory magazine changes on some of our stages. |
Is a mini14 good enough to be on the same range with those high dollar black plastic shooters
First match my A$$. DD, if your wife will let you out of the house, you need to come shoot. Take back your man card son! |
Is there a minimum power factor?
If I wanted to bring my HK53 out in the future, would you allow it? |
Seen from 9mm to 308 being shot. The 9s are funny. They shoot and a while later it hits the plate. |
There's no minimum power factor. We'll count the target scored if your muzzle blast knocks the target over. (ask the guys shooting the comped FAL's) Any center-fire, magazine fed, semi-automatic rifle will do just fine. The NFA toys are retricted to SBR's and Suppressors. You can bring a MG, as long as you shoot it semi; it's a policy of the range, not our decision. |
Make Time - Borrow Money - Come Shoot I really wish you could join us DD. You used to make that mini talk, and you shoot irons better than most shoot optics. |

Ooohh-rah!
Sounds like four awesome CoF. THIS TIME my rifle will be sighted in. When I got home I found at 100 yards I was 8" up and 8" left. At least that's the excuse I'm going with. ETA: I also now have a nice match trigger. |
What trigger did you end up buying? With CMC out of the trigger business for a while, the options for a non-adjustable trigger are fairly limited. I tried the JP, but it had too many adjustments for a non-adjustable trigger. I decided on the JARD. That mil-spec trigger was slowing me down too much. I also found that the ACOG wasn't all it's cracked up to be at CQB distances. Several of the guys that have more experience with the ACOG have told me that the BAC just takes practice, but I'm thinking that there is no way it will ever be as fast as my Aimpoint; we'll see. |
Rock River. I have several of them. With a little finagling you can get a good used one for $60 or so. VERY nice.
EoTech is. |

Notice the new date of 2/25/06. Yes, it's my fault. I really gotta start keeping a calendar. Gonna be in Tennessee that weekend and as of yet I have been unable to figure how to be in two places at the same time Besides, Rabbit9 would be lost without me
Psssttt....let's do the original date so SOMEONE ELSE CAN WIN!!!!!!!!!!! |
BELIEVE ME, that thought did cross my mind. It's just the second thought I have of setting up and running a match this size by myself, that brings me to my senses. |

This looks like a good match for the 308!
BTT as a reminder!! |
Only if the .308 isn't scared away by all of the mouse guns, and actually SHOWS UP.
I hear that there's a SOCOM that needs ringing out. This is the perfect opportunity. The "Big Bore" rule is still in effect - If your muzzle blast knocks the target over or just plain cuts the target in half, the target is scored as no points down. |
SOCOM??? One of these days you may man-up and step over to the "BIG BORE" side....
One of these days I'm gonna go prehistoric on y'all and use my Garand for one of these shoots.

scoop / rabbit9 -
Should I bring these to the next shoot? www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=434796 |

Two questions:
1. Are spectators allowed? I'm new to the AR and would be embarassed as hell to shoot a match against you old-timers 2. Where is this place? www.carolinastar.com is a dead link and google wasn't much help. |
Come shoot. . It is a lot of fun. I will be last place as I have that postion reserved at the next shoot already. I shot last time so long trying to hit a few targets I heard somebody snoring behind me. Location www.aiken-explorer.com/ad-carolina-star-gun-&-hunt-club-aiken-sc.htm |
Come on out and shoot. None of us are gonna get picked up by U.S. Special Forces teams for our defensive carbine skillz. Well, 'cept maybe Scoop - and we can use your help to hate on him. Its a blast. |
I love you too, garandman See you on the 25th. |
A friend of mine and I were thinking about entering one of these. Does anyone have access to the archived thread with all the pictures from a match that happened last year? My friend is up for it but I want to show her a little more about what it involves.
May be bringint a NG guy from my work. He is the units firearms trainer.
Any head count how many will be there? |
my pleasure. You should come out to the range with the UGA club sometime if you're still in athens. |
I know! I need to. I'm currently looking for a new barrel for my P226 so after that I'm game.
Anyone have a used 9mm 226 barrel? |
We'll be there tomorrow night at 6. I MAY have my new warrior there, assuming I pick it up in the morning. |
NICE! I wish I could have jumped on that deal. |
THAT'S NUTHIN - IT MADE ME LOOK FAT. |
Uh-oh. Wife and kids out of town until late Saturday. Lots of ammo on hand. I see a drive to SC in my future. Near future.
Newby questions: What's the pro/con for shooting the AR-10 vs. the AR-15? Iron sights or scope? How long does it really take on a Sat PM to get from Carolina Star to the ATL airport? What time should the shoot be finished? |
DO you wish to appear more manly than the rest of us? Go with the AR10. We'll wait while you clear jams. The timer keeps running however.... []:D]
Mostly red dot sights
Mapquest has never actually injured me when using it.
Prolly about 2PM |

Many Georgians fear the river crossing. Maybe I will shoot an AK so I will have a good excuse for missing this time.
