K, so I've pretty much been to and seen all of the major vacationing spots in Georgia - Savannah, all Atlanta has to offer (except for the zoo), Gatlinburg/Chattanooga (TN/GA line I know), Helen, etc.  

What am I missing?  Brainstorming on a trip for me and the wife.  I remember going to a plantation once as a kid that I thought was in GA, any of you familiar?

There's always Stone Mountain. You could spend the day there. There is a plantation house and such there.

Plenty of places to hike the App. trail.

Forsyth, GA has the "Little Grand Canyon"- I haven't been but have wanted to see it.

Richard Russell Scenic Highway is a nice drive in the hills, with a couple nice stops along the way.

Ft. Oglethorpe and Chickamauga

Come to Lake Lanier and rent a boat and spend the weekend on the lake

Coastal islands Tybee, Cumberland, etc.

Over near Lumpkin there is a recreation of an 1840's Georgia village.  It is pretty cool.  It's been so long since I have been home (Alabama) that I cannot remember the name of the place.  Wait a sec.

It's Westville Historic Village.  Close to Providence Canyon, which we used to call "The Grand Canyon of Gullies" prior to its  becoming a park.  That is a great spot.  We used to climb the sides and hike the bottom of the canyon often when kids.  Also nearby are the Kolomoki Mounds State Park, another fascinating place.  And, just right down the road, is Eufaula, Alabama.  My hometown and a nice place to visit.  In April Eufaula (first weekend I believe) it holds  its historical tour.  Antebellum houses open, art in park, music, that kind of stuff.  Pretty cool though.  

Used to be a really good resturant up in Dahlonaga.  I think it was called Smith House.  Or Smythe.  Something like unto that.

Tybee Island is okay,just a little crowded.
I like St Simons,but it is so expensive,I have to go during the off season!
There is an old fort at Tybee across from the lighthouse,and another one somewhere,and on St Simons there is an old settelemnt ruins that is nice too,if you like to walk around that type stuff,and the light house is nice to walk up.
If you like to gamble casino style,there is a boat out of Brunswick that goes out to international waters with craps,slots,roulette,and blackjack tables .the ride out is nice,and includes a fairly good buffet dinner with the fare.
And Jekyll Island is right down the road from St Simons and Brunswick too,for a nice day trip.
Don't forget to bring back the Vidalia onions while you're down there!

GA highway 9  aka  Thunder Road

Okeefnokee swamp down around Waycross is fun and educational. Nice park and nature stuff to see.  There is the Jerald Plantation right outside of Forsyth Ga in Juliette Ga. Its educational also. Cheers WarDawg

Then you have the beer store that sells beer by the bucket, jug, or whatever container you have with you.  [heading out of town toward Dawsonville on the right, past the school]

There's the Plantation out by Greensboro, east on I20.  It has the benefits of being right next to Lake Oconee.
