Mike, I really appreciate the fast turn around time on the holster.  I got it yesterday.  It is better than expected.  (I already posted in Feedback.)

For those of you who don't know, Mike owns Talon Tactical.  He makes custom holsters for just about anything.  

I got my first holster from Mike about a year ago and it's made a huge difference in both my daily carry comfort and pistol presentment when performing drills at the range.

I had a few nice leather holsters, but one day at the range running speed drills convinced me I was not using an ideal holster for ME.  YMMV.  

No doubt, the Milt Sparks holsters are VERY nice.  I just have a harder time quickly drawing from a leather holster.  Plus, the leather holds moisture.

At first I really didn't like the way the Kydex seemed to leave light scuff marks on my pistol.  Then it was pointed out to me that even leather will do that.

Kydex ain't for everyone, but I'm a converted fan.

I can relate.  When I was carrying IWB, I was never really comfortable with any holster I tried.  Again, this is ALL personal preferance, but...

Once I switched over to OWB carry my carry habits changed dramatically.  I no longer had to worry about buying clothes (pants, mainly) one size too big.  I was more comfortable in general moving around and sitting down.  I started actually carrying a lot more than I used to carry.  

I'll never go back to IWB carry.  It's too uncomfortable for me.

If you ever want to try carrying OWB, I'll let ya borrow one of my Talon Tactical kydex holsters or the Galco leather holster I've got (and never use).  They are all for full-sized 1911s.

I've been using an A10 for almost a year.  It has a belt loop that requires you to remove the belt to put it on/take it off.  Rock solid.  I also wear a Wilderness belt almost everyday.  A good rigid belt makes a big difference when carrying too.

I just got a PDL from him, which is like the A10 as far as retention goes, but you can just slip it over your belt/waistband.  It's just more convenient if I'm carrying and need to pop off the holster, for example, to enter a government building, etc.

Both holsters are awesome.  I also have some of his pistol mag holders.  

Yes.  A t-shirt will do.  Seriously, as long as the t-shirt is somewhat loose fitting, it will conceal a 1911 just fine.  Most times I wear a golf shirt though.

The thing is, even wearing IWB is going to force you to wear a cover garment.  UNLESS, you are using one of the holsters that allows you to tuck the whole damn gun down your pants and then tuck in a shirt over it.  If you're carrying like this, God help you if you need to draw down on someone.  Can you say S-L-O-W  D-R-A-W?

Point taken.  The only reason I wasn't carrying is my other Kimber is sick with a broken mainspring housing.  (That's another story for another thread.)  I knew ARH would be carrying, plus I can run faster than him.

I'm going to post a new thread about it after I get it fixed, but since you asked...

My wife and I were in her car going to my sister's house around Christmas.  Out of respect for my Mom & sister (who are not anti-gun, but prefer I not carry in their homes with young kids around - yes, that yet ANOTHER thread...), I had my Kimber in it's holster (Talon Tactical A10) on the floorboard of the car.  It was there because my wife has too much crap in your glove compartment.

Anyway, we stopped at a CVS and while getting out I kicked the damn pistol out of the SUV and it skidded 10 feet accross the parking lot.  It hit just right on the beavertail of the grip safety and cracked the top of the mainspring housing.  The gun was still functional.

I should mention the pistol stayed snugly inside the holster, which really helped protect it.  Thanks again Talon Tactical!  The only scratch was a slight one on the beavertail where it hit the street.

Well, I called Kimber to ask them what they recommended and even though the pistol is 18+ months old (i.e. out of official warranty period), they sent me a free replacement.  I thought that was pretty damn awesome of them.  I will eventually replace it with a metal part from their custom shop, but for now I'm happy to not shell out any money.

Here's the pain in the ass though.  UPS tried to deliver the part yesterday but it was sent requiring an ADULT SIGNATURE!  Doh!  So, I get to pick it up at the damn UPS place tomorrow.  I expected Kimber to just stick the part in an envelope with a .37 stamp.  

I forgot about the Ed Brown one.  I'll have to check it out.
