I've heard lots of great things about Mike's products.  I just can't get into the whole Kydex thing.  I know the people who have his products love them, but I'm just a Milt Sparks leather guy.

Well, I'm fat and that's the reason they don't work for me as an IWB option.  That part that sticks up on the inside jabs the crap out of the tire I'm wearing around my waist.  I do have a nice Kydex paddle for wearing inside the car for easy on/easy off but it's a pain to try to conceal with that thing.

Do you have to wear a cover garment all the time and what do you use as a cover garment?

I've had a LOT of problems with the site doing that to me lately.  It's starting to piss me off.

Good for my post count though.

Yeah, right, it's not you.

I started actually carrying a lot more than I used to carry.

You weren't carrying the other morning when we went out for breakfast.  Is the Cracker Barrel a "criminal free zone"?  I was very disappointed.  I was going to have to protect you and ARH if the SHTF.

The thing is, even wearing IWB is going to force you to wear a cover garment.  UNLESS, you are using one of the holsters that allows you to tuck the whole damn gun down your pants and then tuck in a shirt over it.  If you're carrying like this, God help you if you need to draw down on someone.  Can you say S-L-O-W  D-R-A-W?

It's an even slower draw if you have to tell the bad guy, "I'll be right back.  I just need to go out to my car to get my gun."

Point taken.  The only reason I wasn't carrying is my other Kimber is sick with a broken mainspring housing.  (That's another story for another thread.)  I knew ARH would be carrying, plus I can run faster than him.

You know I was just breaking your balls, right?

How did you break a mainspring housing?  Inquiring minds want to know  Also, which one are you going to get to replace it?

I will eventually replace it with a metal part from their custom shop, but for now I'm happy to not shell out any money.

I really liked the Ed Brown Snakeskin flat mainspring housing I had on my Wilson Combat Protector.  I also really liked the Wilson Combat Speedchute magwell/mainspring housing I had on my Kimber Target Eclipse.  Man do I miss those guns!

I forgot about the Ed Brown one.  I'll have to check it out.

I picked up a steel mainspring housing for my Colt at the last Eastman's show from the little 1911 parts guy.  It's made by EMC and looks better than the Baer MSH I bought.  It was $15 or $20 I think.

BTW, what is it with you and losing things when you get out of cars?

Mike, have you made any holsters for mounting in a vehicle, like under the dash or in front of the driver's seat?
Link Posted: 1/8/2005 7:03:11 AM EDT
[#25]
Yes I have made mountable holsters.

If you want to stop by the shop and show me what you have in mind I'll make it for you while you wait.
