Just wanted to know.

I realize some folks carry cocked and locked but is there a double action solution for the 1911?

OK Im not saying this is a true 1911, but I thought Paraordance made a 1911 looking pistol that had a double action system. It got really good reviews from what I remember. This was back in the early or mid 90's.Cheers WarDawg

Well for some of us there is no problem with carrying Cocked & Locked.
But for those not accustom to it, Colt made a Double Eagle Series 90 Double/single action.
Para makes the LDA Light Double Action.
There may be other that are not coming to mind right now.

Cocked'n'Locked is the way to go on a 1911.  While this may seem reckless, keep in mind that the 1911 actually has two safeties (three if you count Kimber's Series II firing pin safety).  The first is the thumb safety, which not only blocks the sear from releasing, but also locks the slide in place, thus preventing any slide movement.  The second safety is the grip safety, which, if not depressed, prevents the trigger from being pulled.  You can pull, push, or huff and puff at the trigger all you want, but if the grip safety is not pushed in, it won't fire.  Also, the Series II safety locks in the firing pin if the grip safety is not depressed, thus it won't fire.  The 1911 is a very safe pistol to carry, provided you learn its mechanics and its operation, but IMHO, its no more dangerous to carry cocked and locked than any other pistol in DA mode, safety on.  YMMV

... The Para-Ordnance LDA is a true double action yet its exterior (sans trigger) it still looks like a 1911 design.

Sure did.  It was great.  Every round went bang like it was supposed to, and it was sweet.  Too bad the sights area a little off (shoots 1" to the left at 15 yards), but that should be easily remedied.

real 1911's don't need da. C&L on a 1911 is completely safe. It was desinged to be carried that way.

a DA 1911 is a sissy gun

FWIW, Seecamp (& maybe others?) used to perform a double-action conversion on 1911-style pistols, with mixed reviews.  With the success & widespread availability of the ParaOrdnance LDA pistols, I doubt it would be worth anyone's trouble to offer these conversions anymore.

Colt used to offer the Double Eagle pistols - DA pistols that were "1911-ish" & used 1911 mags.  I had a couple & liked them - wish I hadn't sold them both...

edited to add:
FWIW, I have been well-served for many years by a S&W 645 - IMO an excellent full-sized DA .45 auto.  But I wouldn't classify it as "a double action solution for the 1911"...
