Hey guys, thought I would start a new thread for this topic since I hijacked my own thread regarding spotting scopes (still looking for recommendations).

7pm at American Classic Marksmen on Peachtree Industrial in Norcross.

I should be there around 7pm after I leave work.  Let me know if anyone else would like to join me.  I have a new Kimber that I "need" to try out.

Here's a tentative yes, but it depends on what SWMBO feels like doing tomorrow night.

Dammit dood, why do people always go shooting when I have prior engagements?  Oh well.  I'll be there next time.  Bushmaster-M4gery, what Kimber did you buy?

Dude, don't tempt me, I might have to skip my Strategic Management Class to come...now if you bump it to Friday...lots of paper will have to die.

Consider yourself tempted.  Unfortunately I have plans for Friday night.  Fortunately I have several years of management experience, so I can tutor you on your course.

What the hell is SWMBO?  And why would you let it affect your trigger time?

RANGE REPORT:

Well the group shoot (just me) was a success.  Tried out the new Kimber and a Walther P22 that I bought a few months ago.  The only problem I had with the Kimber was a few times the slide would not return all the way forward into battery.  Anyone else have this problem?  I'm new to the 1911 world, could it have been a grip issue or does it just need to break in a little more.

The Walther performed flawlessly, great gun and fun as hell to shoot.

I was really really tempted to skip class, and now wish that I did.  Dude, that's not what I wanted to hear about the Kimber.  I am saving up to get a Pro Carry II later this year.  I've been reading the 1911forums postings about the FTRB issue with Kimbers and was hoping that they took care of it already.  I had a Custom II (purchased in January, sold in June [:C], wish I still had it) that was flawless in the 525 rounds I put through it.  I put 500 rounds of Winchester Q4170 230gr FMJ (various lots), and 25 rounds of Georgia Arms 230gr +p Gold Dots through it, all using Wilson Combat 47D mags, and never experienced this problem.  Weird.  Are the FTRBs occuring when you are shooting, or just hand cycling?  Also, not to insult your intelligence, did you throughly clean the gun, lube lightly, and hand cycle a few times before you shot it?

I sell quite a few Kimbers and haven't had anyone come back with a problem of the gun not returning to battery. I'll ask my Kimber rep about it. I asked about the change to external extractors and was told that they found that the external extractors was the easiest way they found to make the pistol 100% reliable out of the box. I know she's trying to sell guns so I don't know. Also I've seen plenty of 1911 style pistols that were 100% with an internal extractor. I guess time will tell if Kimber screwed the pooch on this one.

Kimber's tolerances are so tight I wouldn't call it ready until you have about 500 rounds through it.  AND STOP LIMPWRISTING IT!

The bit about the tolerances is true.  If you held a Springfield and sorta rotated your wrists back and forth, it rattles like crazy.  Do the same with a Kimber: silence.  I played with my old Custom II a lot right when I got it, racking the slide, dry firing, etc, so when I finally got to the range, it was probably kinda starting to wear in, so it shot flawlessly.  Now I'm really looking forward to a new Kimber.

I suggest you keep your new kimber well lubed during break in.  That will solve most of your problems.  Clean after each session as well.

The FTRB's occured during firing.  The gun was cleaned and lube.  I'll be taking it back to the range in a few days to try again.  Any 1911 "experts" want to join me.  It would need to be around 6:30 or so.  How about Thursday again? Let me know.

I can't make it.  My Kimber Custom II has given me zero problems.  I haven't had one failure of any kind.

Are you saying you only go to the range when your Kimber IS giving you problems?

Your sentence fragments seem to give that impression.
