Okay, I was starting to think it was just me.  I have BellSouth and am just inside the perimiter, north of Atlanta.  For about the past week or so my bandwidth has dropped from 1.5 mbps to about 400 kbps.  Also, there seems to be alot of lag.

Anybody know what's up?  Anybody...anybody...???

Getting a bit of lag, and some connection problems here.  I'm in Smyrna, with Speakeasy DSL over BellSouth wires.

Nothing intolerable though.

Me neither. I'm in Clarkston and I checked last night and I'm pulling 1.2Mbps down. I used DSLreports.com for the speed test.

Sorry for your woes.

Bellsouth is switching their DSL service from PPPoE to BBG. there will be some growing pains but service should improve. on the whole BSDN's DSL sucks...it is to be avoided.

BBG?

BBG/PPPoA is the technology used to get you on the internet... BroadBand Gateway requires the @bellsouth.net where as PPPoA does not,
(I'm thinking VPI/VCI???)

PPPoE/PPPoE is the difference in how the computer connects. PPPoA (point to point protocol over ATM) is an emulation of a dialup modem and connection. PPPoE (point to point protocol over ethernet) is dsl connection via Local area network. without 3rd party software, windows (except for xp/.net 2003) cannot do PPPoE, Mac OSX can, and some distros of linux can.

plagerized from DSL reports

You should never use download porn & throttle a bit in the same sentence...

trust me gang...BSDN's DSL infrastructure sucks. i helped design large portions of it. the primary design paradigms were A. save money and B. get good industry stats. customer experience was not a priority. even when i worked there i didnt use it. i could get it for free and i chose to pay out of pocket for a cable modem.

which cable provider did you use?

Whichever cable provider you choose, make sure it isn't Charter Pipeline.  Their service goes down more often than a Bangkok whore.
