Did you direct deposit or are you waiting on a paper check?  I did direct deposit and got both State and Federal back in 7 days.

You can check the status of your NC tax return at the Department of Revenue's web site. Here's the link:

https://eservices.dor.nc.gov/wheresmyrefund/SelectionServlet

I know in the past the state has delayed sending out refunds when they were low on cash :-(

This is the primary reason I get my taxes done and submitted ASAP (if I'm getting a refund). I've seen the state delay payments for the past two or three years. Luckily, I get mine in during the first week of February. The only delay is waiting for the few various sources to get me the documents needed to file.

Anyway...to answer your question, it took less than a week for me to get my refund. Like I said...first week of February.

Me too.  Filed on the 4th and received electronic confirmation of their receipt the same day.  It's only $600 but still, it's my money.

nope, but the tax differences increase it by a few hundred a month based on the filing status.

yeh. my fiance tells me that my ego is big enough to count as joint filing, but evidently there isn't a loophole in the IRS code to allow that.

Last year they delayed mine until a week before they had to pay interest so I expect the same this year. I never get much back so it's not a big deal but it goes to show just how poorly our government conducts operations.

There is an article on page 2B of today's (3/9/11) Charlotte Observer that states that Gov. Perdue "performed a bookkeeping move Tuesday" to borrow $490.9 million from various state funds over the next 3 months in order to send out tax refunds in a "timely fashion".

So, for those of you waiting, hopefully you will get your money soon.

So did she rob "borrow" lottery proceeds again that are supposed to go for education?

Received on March 10th.

Wonder how much money they earned on the interest of my money while they were sitting on their asses.

Don't wonder, figure it out:

(Return amount) x interest rate x (number of days it took to process the return/365

Example:
$1000 x 0.25% x 30/365 = $0.21

Next year, adjust your deductibles so that your return is as close to $0.00 and you won't have anything to worry about.

EDIT:
Just reread the thread.

$600 x $0.25% x 34/365 = $0.14
