I want to buy a Benelli shotgun from another individual in North Carolina. It's my understanding that private sales of long guns between residents in North Carolina are legal without going to a dealer. Does anyone else know more about this?

Private sales of long guns are legal.
You should get a receipt to show proof of ownership.

How is going through a ffl going to make sure the firearm is not stolen?
The serial no. is logged but it's not checked to see if stolen.

I haven't had to do this in a while, but we used to call
the sheriff's dept & let them run a check on the serial
# to see if it had been reported stolen. I would assume
you could still do that. Or ask someone you know in
LE if they will do it for you...
