Sooo, over the last few days I have been trying my hand at some parkerizing.  Needless to say, it went EXCELLENTLY.  This is with my home brew parkerizing.  Phosphoric acid, distilled water, manganese dioxide.

Yeah...so lets see which excuses you guys buy:

A.  High nickel content int he nodakspud metal
B.  I did it on purpose
C.  I have no idea what I'm doing

Ugh!  It's horrible!  You're gonna have to get rid of it!  I'll be happy to "dispose" of it for you!

Or save yourself an arse-ton (this is a ligitemate measurement) of trouble and use KG Gunkote's system.  Norel's seems like top notch stuff too, but the KPhos treatment you use before you coat and bake is what gets that 500 hours of salt spray resistance the Navy so loves, or so KG says.  I've never had any of my firearms even think about rusting after KPhosing and coating them.  Even my Springfield, wich has gotten a battlescar or two.

KG Says they developed it for the Navy many moons ago and it passed their tests and standards.  I'd think it would hold up better than Parkerizing and you can mix colors to get that exact look you're looking for.

I recently reparked a fsb using manganese out of a d battery, a steel wool pad, distilled water, and some phos based concrete etcher. It came out a dark charcoal gray (almost black) which is what I wanted. Soaked it in used motor oil for a day. I did notice the texture is a little rougher than what it was orginally, but it looks pretty dang good.

Don't forget to soak it in grease for the actual protection.  Vaseline works great, slather it up and bake it at 200 F for a few hours.
