Two days, only saw (4) does. At 5:15 on the last day, with daylight almost gone, I radiod my buddy that I was going in. He said, "Give it 15 more minutes." As soon as the radio clicked off, I saw a deer come out of the woods 250 yards away. It came down the clover lane and stopped 150 yards out. I sighted in and waited for it to move. But it just kept getting darker and the deer wasn't budging. I fired twice. The first aimed at his heart, the second was a quick shot before he jumped. As soon as the second shot went off, he disappeared. When we went to the spot, I was stunned to see I dropped it in place. I had thought it was a doe. I missed the antlers in the dark. It was an 8 point buck, about 160 lbs. I missed the heart, but somehow managed to hit it square at the base of the skull. The bullet didn't leave an exit wound. It had nothing left inside the skull. I could shoot a million times and never hit like that again. It's better to lucky than good!
I'd have pictures, but it was dark by the time we picked it up and we had to get it to the meat plant before they closed at 7.
Last year, it was my Bulgarian AK on a doe. This year it was my Yugo SKS on a buck. June will be my G1 Fal on black bear. Who say you can't hunt with mil surp!
