Driving home last night I noticed we have 65mph speed limits on the US20 Bypass. It's about time.

Now I can drive 69 to and from work and not worry about a ticket.

It must be nice. Our local paper says that ours (HWY 37) probably won't raise until at least this fall.

I drove across IN a year ago and again about 2 weeks ago, I could sware that a year ago the speed limit on I-70 & I-74 was 70mph but 2 weeks ago it was 65mph.  Am I nuts?

As far as I can remember it's been 65 mph.

Just a heads up, the speed limit does not take effect until the signs are posted.  Also, be careful.  For those that already drive 10mph and over may not be able to do so anymore since the speed limit raised.  Officers from my department are going to be writing people for > 6 over.  Just FYI.

Until the change July 1 '05 it has always been 65 since I have lived in the Indianapolis area.

Once we get that established in court they'll have to give us 10 mph over....

Who'll go first??

I think you're going to see a lot of officers tighten up on speeding tickets.  Now that the speed limit is raised, they don't intend for you to drive 5 mph faster than the 8-10mph you're already driving, but bring the signs up to the speed people are driving.

I don't think that to much will change, it has been along time comin.

5-6 MPH over and they are giving citations?! Man I don't stop a car unless it's doing 10 over and depending how I feel it maybe 15 over but that's doing 85 so they "may" get a citation at that speed from me. It just depends on the excuse and the attitude.

Man, that's good to hear.  I drive across Indiana a few times a year to visit the folks in SW MI, and a little extra speed will be nice.  I never go over 75 anyway.  I'll be heading that way in a couple weeks.  I go through IN because I hate Ohio.  A plus is that you guys have reciprocity with NC.

Anything I should be weary of on my drive? Any town's to avoid with CCW? (Other than Gary)

75 MPH is plenty fast enuff. The takeoff speed for a Cessna 172 is 60mph, so if yu need faster...FLY!... The Illinois drivers pass me (I'm doin 72-75) like I'm sittin still.

We tend to do that sometimes.  Sorry.

I did a little experiment a while back, before the speed limit went up.  I was driving west on I-70 from SR 39 to SR 59 (Brazil exit) and set my cruise on 70.  In the 30 miles or so I counted I passed 2 semis and was passed by at least 20 cars.  So lots of people drove more than 70, but I guess I can't tell from that experiment how many were doing 70 like I was was.

I465 (Loop around Indianapolis)  I drive every day to and from work.  I usually go 65-70 (posted 55MPH) in the slow lane.  I can't believe the # of cars that go 80+ MPH regularly.
I don't think the limit on 465 is going to be raised, but I don't know.  It's just ridiculious, though.  The police do nothing to discourage it, either.  I still slow down to the posted speed limit out of habit when I see a white car with lights on top in my rear view mirror, but 465 is a no holds barred race track..  pass the cops if you want.  I see it every day, and never see anything done.
I'm not complaining, mind you...  Go as fast as you want if you can get away with it, just have insurance if you run into me!

The new 70 mph speed limit didn't accomplish anything on I-65 north of Indy.  With only 2 lanes, & with semis hogging both lanes at times, traffic slows to less than 65  anyway.  So, what's the point?  This no different than having the speed limit at 65.  The 70 mph speed limit is for looks only & was a stupid political move that went against common sense & safety.

It Does NOT matter if they change the signs in your area or not- the speed limits have been raised by 5mph.  If you are waiting for the signs to change before you go faster, would you adhere to any limits if you didn't see any signs at all?  Don't worry about the signs so much as the law itself.

Did the law really raise the limit from 65 to 70 in all areas that were 65 before?  It's been over a month now since it went into effect--more than enough time to change the signs--and I go past both 70 and 65 signs on my way to work each day.

BTW, does anybody know which roads, if any, went from 55 to 60?  I thought the law included some 55->60 and figured IN-63 north of Terre Haute would be one of them, but so far as I know it hasn't gone up there.
