What are the laws concerning building an AR with an 11.5 inch barrel like the kits advertised at J&T. I was under the assumption that when all put together the riffle overall length requirement wouldn't be met, therefore requiring permits, taxes, fingerprints, ect just like an automatic firearm.

Have a friend wanting to build one....just checking.

All he needs to do is buy the lower and file a form 1, pay the $200 tax to the BATF wait about 3 months. Once it comes back approved he can slap what ever since upper (under 16") on that specific lower he wants.

I am thinking about doing the same thing next month.

Not to hijack completely, but why would you want an 11.5" AR?

I don't want one....a co-worker wants one....didn't really ask why......but.....why not? other than the $200 tax and all the paperwork bullsh&t. Sounds kinda like my soon to be X asking why I need 47 guns.
