Somehow, I did it in 17 hours, too. Including being stuck in the hell that is Chicago traffic Saturday mid-day...got REAL lucky before, and after, Chicago.

I'm the only guy I know of who drove from MN to NYC to do his laundry (Well, I have to move, too...but bringing all my laundry with me at least legitimized the drive..)

I'll see about scoring bagels and such next week

Heh...some fun trivia for anyone contemplating a drive between Minneapolis and NYC...

Chicago traffic sucks on a mid-day Saturday. I spent more than an hour there when I shouldn't have spent more than 10 minutes at the rate I was driving...basically from 6 Flags Great America on to the other side, it was, as a russian here friend would say, "fuck". Just "fuck". As in "that is fuck".

Gary, IN smells like Newark, NJ. It's roads are as sucky, too.

Ohio is flat. I was tempted to tie a rope to the wheel, set the cruise control for 75, and take a nap.

I was hoping to make it to Cleveland before I cashed in...no such luck. After 13 hours behind the wheel (Chicago REALLY slowed me down), I crashed just outside there...

Super 8 Motels suck. They're not BAD in that you're guaranteed at least one police raid per night, but it was pretty bleak. On top of that, they dinged me $80! For a room I couldn't even order porn in! What the shit is that!


Heh...it was actually kind of funny. Being that I've lived/worked in the NYC metro area since I was 17 (over 10 years), my driving habits are more "combat" than "defensive" or even "offensive". Being in MN kinda mellowed me out a bit...until I literally, seriously, crossed the border into NJ. All the way out here I was going with the flow, not honking, in a calm state, just accepting traffic as a cow accepts flies...and then I crossed over that bridge on Rt. 80 into NJ...things get backed up...and the first thing I say: "Who's the fucktard who's holding up the parade?? Eh? Fuckin Jersey!"
