Needing a sound off of who is going!!!
Be at the range by 0800hrs. Ammunition load out is a minimum of 150 pistol, 150 carbine rifle, 100 birdshot, 20 buckshot, no slugs are needed but if they are part of your your normal carry then have them with. Bring more ammo if you wish, as we may have time to repeat some of the more extensive drills depending on time. You will also need to wear your normal combat LBE load out for all, to include body armor if you have it!!! You will be on the ground, so be ready to scrape and scuff everything!!! Be ready to get dirty, run, jog, sprint, sweat, work hard, and have a good time. Bring water and some energy burning food (I like Pound Cakes!!!). Some Ibuprofen is also greatly recommended for those that will need it and especially want it. We will be doing some more "from the vehicle" work so make sure your vehicle is ready for extra passengers, is gased up and ready to drive as well as shoot from!!! Cost as usual is $45 for the day. +1 DPMS is running good just got back from the range and it cycles like greased lightning now. They didnt even make a comment about me shooting the WOLF ammo. I will give DPMS a top rate score on the customer service when you have a repeat problem.

Back40 sheepeshly raises hand from back row, wondering if there'll be any end to the pain he is about to endure....
CHECK YOUR SIX! |

We will start with carbine/pistol, then onto shotgun/pistol. Carbine/pistol will be on the move and with stress involved. Then if time permits, we will do some precision carbine work. Shotgun/pistol will be fast and furious, but with lots of fun mixed in. Again all training will be done in your normal operational field loadout, you must carry everything you need or want, with a stress put onto need because if you run out of ammo you are considered to be non-operational, which non-operational means that the survivors get to split up your gear!!!

I only have 2 mags for the Sig that work hope that is all that is needed.
Sounds like you need a Colt 1911 You should have talked to me before and I would have set you straight on some of your firearms Not trying to HIJACK sully's thread and setting all fun aside for a second, I enjoyed shooting with you on Sunday, and I am glad to hear your AR is working, looking forward to the next shoot |

You know that I might have been trained in dealing with Hijackings!!! On another note, if anyone wants to see how their self defense ammo does performs, bring at least 3 1-gallon milk jugs full of water for each round that you wish to test, strictly for entertainment purposes though!!! Is nine AR mags and four usp mags on me gona cut it for carbine pistol..... I wonder?
I've been thinking about a Springfield Mil Spec. But .45ACP ammo is about twice as much as 9mm. I know, it's more "powerful". |
Now there are exceptions... but generally speaking, once one goes 1911.. they never go back. I personally need the look of blued steel somewhere, someplace! Combat tupperware just doesn't do it for me. ::This opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it.:: |

DPMMN is right... You're going to want the Colt...1911 I was looking at getting a Springfield Mil Spec for the longest time... Then I was reading here on AR15.com that there has been a lot of hit & miss as far as the quality control at Springfield Armory lately... As a result, I thought that was the only option within my price range... Then I realized that I can get a reliable COLT 1911 for just about $40 to $100 more if I get it USED... I know, I know... It's not "New" but IF I buy a gun, am I going to keep it forever in a safe & never fire it? NO! So WHO TF cares if it has had ~200 to ~500 rounds through it before I bought it!? THAT JUST MEANS I DON'T HAVE TO BREAK IT IN!!! I got ONE HELLUVA deal on my (barely) used Colt 1911, and the only thing was that it was dirty when I bought it (Most cops HATE cleaning guns... A known fact), and it had a little holster wear on the slide. NO BIG F'in DEAL... It was going to get that little bit of wear anyway from carrying it with my CCW Permit! Instead of getting the baseline Springfield and have to pay a buttload of $$ on parts to put in her... The only thing I need to get are new tritium sights, and I'll be one happy camper! If you feel you NEED a new gun, get the Springfield, it likely WILL serve you well. They're great guns from what I've researched (unless you get a lemon). For me, the "New" is just a novelty. I know someday (when I have a career & a lot more $$ to blow) I'll be out on a Defensive Edge course (reddened to show it's sort-of on topic; sorry Sully ) and dinging the crap out of its finish rolling in the sand, mud, and brass cases (which y'all know I'll later pick up)... But who TF cares... I *ALWAYS* beat the SH!T out of my favorite guns... That's what makes them my favorites (they get used)! If I have to get them refinished 5-10 years down the line, that's only a couple bills out of my pocket, and this frame & slide will likely last me the rest of my life. Barrels & refinishing are cheap (as are most 1911 parts). As far as AMMUNITION COST is concerned... Get out & buy some reloading gear. It'll be FUN, STRESS RELIEVING, EDUCATIONAL, and COST EFFECTIVE FOR ALMOST ALL CALIBERS! For .45 ACP it's about $11.00 per box of 50 rds of Winchester White-Box, and that has a reputation of being under-powered in many calibers (may not be 100% reliable)... Think about this. I can handload/reload .45 ACP with a bit hotter (read: More reliable, better ballistics) loads, and it will cost me ~$6.75 PER 100 rds of ammo! Same with .380 ACP ammo. $9.00 per 50 rds FMJ Winchester White-Box (VERY unreliable in .380)... OR, I can handload .380 ACP for a cost of $5.65 PER 100 rds of BETTER ammo! Look in to the pricing of reloading gear. You'll find it more affordable than you think (especially if you buy used from someone )! 45 ACP is MUCH more gun than 9mm or 380 for that matter. $338 for my 5000 rds per year... Compare that to $1100 for 5000 rds per year (winchester white box). That's like paying 1/3 of my annual car insurance! Hmmm.... Inferno715 was right... This doesn't happen to be a "Brief Post?" Is it!? Sorry guys... Edited to cut down on length of "Ramblings"... If you think it's still long... Just be glad you didn't read the "long" version. |

I can't believe that was in Calvin & Hobbes!!! COOL!!!
Time to dig out my old books & find which one it was in & where... |

For a 1911 style I think Kimber would beat a Colt any day. Never seen Quinlans fuck up. (very nice) but if you want the best a H&K-USP will do.

iNuhBaDNayburhood:
Thanks for the thoughts....I have no problems with used guns, most of my collection, that which hasn't fallen overboard in various tragic boating accidents, is used. I'm sure you got a great deal on a Colt, but most of us won't have that opportunity. Buying used pistols out of state is almost impossible these days. Overnight shipping of $30-$40, plus $25 for the local dealer transfer, pretty much kills any out of state deals. Reloading is in itself a hobby above and beyond shooting. The cost savings vs time involved to do it, just isn't worth it for plinking ammo. Unless you're a target shooter wanting the utmost in quality control, there is no point in it. I know people who have thousands of dollars in progressive loaders sitting collecting dust because the time involved doesn't make economic sense. Besides the fact that most firearm KABOOMS that I read about are caused by self-reloaded ammunition. Simply not worth my time. |

A Nauseous Nocturne
From: The Essential Calvin and Hobbes, by Bill Watterson Another night deprived of slumber, Hours passing without number, My eyes trace 'round the room. I lay Dripping sweat and now quite certain That tonight the final curtain Drops upon my short life's precious play. From the darkness, by the closet Comes a noise, much like a faucet Makes: a madd'ning drip-drip-dripping sound. It seems some ill-proportioned beast, Anticipating me deceased, Is drooling poison puddles on the ground. A can of Mace, a forty-five, Is all I'd need to stay alive, But no weapon lies within my sight. Oh my gosh! A shadow's creeping, Omnious and black, it's seeping Slowly 'cross a moonlit square of light! Suddenly a floorboard creak Announces the bloodsucking freak Is here to steal my future years away! A sulf'rous smell now fills the room Heraldingmy imm'nent doom! A fang gleams in the dark and murky gray! Oh, blood-red eyes and tentacles! Throbbing, pulsing ventricles! Mucus-oozing pores and frightful claws! Worse, in terms of outright scariness, Are the suckers multifarious That grab and force you in its mighty jaws! This disgusting aberration Of nature needs no mitivation To devour helpless children in their beds. Relishing despairing moans, It chews kids up and sucks their bones, And dissolves inside its mouth their li'l heads! I know this 'cause I read it not Two hours ago, and then I got The heebie-jeebies and these awful shakes. My parents swore upon their honor That I was safe, and not a goner. I guess tomorrow they'll see their sad mistakes. In the morning, they'll come in And say, "waht was that awful din We heard last night? You kept us both from sleep!" Only then will they surmise The gruesomeness of my demise And see that my remains are in a heap. Dad will look at Mom and say, "Too bad he had to go that way." And Mom will look at Dad, and nod assent. Mom will add, "Still, it's fitting, That as he was this world quitting, He should leave another mess before he went." They may not mind at first, I know. They will miss me later, though, And perhaps admit that they were wrong. As memories of me grow dim, They'll say, "We were too strict with him. We should have listened to him all along." As speedily my end approaches, I bid a final "buenas noches" To my best friend here in all the world. Gently snoring, whiskers seeming To sniff at smells (he must be dreaming), He lies snugled in the blankets, curled. HEY! WAKE UP, YOU STUPID CRETIN! YOU GONNA SLEEP WHILE I GET EATEN?! Suddenly the monster knows I'm not alone! There's an animal in bed with me! An awful beast he did not see! The monster never would've come if he had known! The monster, in his consternation, Demonstates defenestration, And runs and runs and runs and runs away. Rid of the pest, I now can rest, Thanks to my best friend, who saved the day. |
That's a cool Watterson writing!
Most of the Kabooms I've read about weren't because of the ammo, but because they were GLOCKS! Actually, KBs happen when people don't follow guidelines, and they feel that ANY caliber can be loaded above SAAMI specs. This is NOT true. One load developed for a certain firearm simply CANNOT be used in ANY other gun (if it's over SAAMI specs) than the gun for which it was intended. Acquiring the equipment and components is NOT the difficult part of handloading ammo. LEARNING how to do it safely is the tough part. No one load is the same, nor does any two guns perform the same with a given loading of ammunition. |

So far we have:
QuinlanV death451 hawk Fedgunner Wintermute76 back40 1kydshot and one by phone That gives us 8, unless we missed someone. Inuh said maybe. Now where is Jakezor? Stay Safe, Greg Sullivan "Sully" Chief Instructor www.thedefensiveedge.com |

Well, it's now CERTAIN that I'll be there, but I have to do some work @ the cemetery in the morning so I'll be late... Probably sometime between 9 to 11 AM, not sure. I have to leave @ about 3 PM as well, because I'm pressed with a temporary responsibility @ work. (Just for the weekend)
I'll see U there in the AM. I'm looking forward to trying my 1911 some more! |
Yeah, sorry guys I'm getting ready to move next week, and unfortunately my Grandmother's funeral in today/tomorrow (very recent development).
I also haven't taken Handgun 1 or Shotgun 1 yet. |
I didn't take the Shotgun 1 course, but still got to play around with them! It was a great time! Thank you to those of you generous souls that let me use their shotguns & weapons. I would like to thank all those that came because they made the event that much more fun. As usual, those members of the M.O.S.S. who attended today's class cannot mention the S.S.S.S. tactics we learned in this "Event"... My back is still aching a little bit, but it was worth the fun! Thanks for the hook-up & advice, Death451! I gotta get out & train more, and get some more rounds through my handgun soon. Some pics (though not of the S.S.S.S. tactics & balloon fun) will hopefully make their way to the board. The room clearing stuff was fun! I didn't expect to be doing push-ups today, but it was... Educational... A good time, indeed! |

I must of worn them all out!!! They are all fast asleep. In all reality, everyone worked extremely hard and did well, so I understand the exhaustion.

Had a good time today, even tho I couldn't hit the steel at the end to save my soul hooting |

I always say a bad shooting is a helluva lot better then a good day at work, except pay day cause then you can pay for more ammo!
Let me also throw in some thanks to those who donated some trigger time and rounds (Death, Quinn and Fed) much appreciated guys. Sully, thanks for the day, as always top notch.
It was great to shoot with you all again and I look forward to the next time. |

I pre-warned all of you, , that this was no USPSA/IDPA type shoot. Just wait until you get to the October 5-gun. Did I ever mention something about muscle memory!!! I look at it as no pain, no gain!!!

I didn't realize that push-ups were so tough with the added weight of tactical gear!!! I must have *REALLY* pulled some back muscles because when I woke up I could hardly get out of bed my back was in such pain! Then I took some Advil, and left for work... Then I realized my back hurt more when I turned my head to check/change lanes on the highways... YOUCH it hurt this morning, but things are getting better now. I just gotta keep stretching before I go to sleep tonight, and it should all be good in the morning (unless I pull something again).
Sure was a good time to get to practice stacking/entry drills with the "shoothouse" rooms. |
The MN area has been pretty quiet this week. Everybody recovering OK?
I am starting to wonder if I need to send Advil to everyone!!! They must still be tired as they are quiet.
QuinlanV, Is the Kieren's road trip still on schedule??? They have playing: Paddy O'Brien from 1800-2200 and the Tim Malloys from 2200-0200. Sounds good to me, unless the Alumni Enforcer Group is too worn out to attend!!! Stay Safe, Greg Sullivan "Sully" Chief Instructor www.thedefensiveedge.com |

I'm not sure what I'm up to this Friday, but I'd like to attend if able.
I'm pretty quiet because I'm exhausted every day after working so hard. The past couple days were pretty warm with some humidity to really get the sweat flowing. I haven't fit into these pants since I was 15!!! I've lost ~28 lbs since May 7th! (Now if only I could get some muscle mass one of these years) -IBN |
Yep! The wife and I and a couple friends are still going. Quite a few people ditched out on us (holiday weekend) so we're not making any special reservations. We are just going to show up around 8:30 or 9:00 on Friday and hang out for a while. I would love to see at least a little of both bands. Seems like a great place. I'm looking forward to it. KIERANS IRISH PUB |

The BEST part is that it's located RIGHT ON A BUSLINE FROM THE UNIVERSITY!!!
Translation: I can get TOTALLY SHIT-FACED DRUNK and STILL have a cheap ride home!!! |
I'm there... and Mrs Fedgunner will be driving home. Life is good! |
Then I will be the strongest MOFO that every lived! My leg muscles make going down stairs a new experience in pain control. Pain killers do absolutely nothing for me, I have a built in immunity to them. The wife just laughed at me when I told her Sully said all our womenz had to give us rub downs. I will be back for more punishment though! |
Today Was the first day I could do stairs without servere pain.

I do like to look at myself but can you blame me I am so damn good looking.
