Well warlock, I have had 3 Kimbers and 3 Springfield 1911s. The Kimbers all run flawlessly. I can't say that of any of the SA pistols. So I stuck with what worked. The SA M1A however has been fantastic.
On the grips, at least I don't use a set of those soft, wussy-boy Houge rubber wrap around grips

QuinlanV,

I think that sounds like a challenge of who can shoot which grip better on the range!!!
I would be happy to officiate such a test.

I'm down with that. But it should be down and dirty, in the mud, on the move, from different positions, and with multiple presentations,  for it to be a REAL test

I have never been a big fan of Wilson mags. their 8rd'ers are nice, but, pretty pricey for what you get.
I get all my cheap 7rd mags from Midwayusa.com...$5/each and never had a problem. (until I dropped one and bent the feed lips all to hell)

My carry mags are mec-gar 8rd mags with plastic base plates for $14/each. They have NEVER failed.

As far as my other springers, well, every last one of them required work. (the 6th one tried to take a bite out of me when I was eating Subway last night)

SA 1911s usually just need a good "fluff-n-buff" on the internal parts. I had a kimber, but, it didn't like Federal Hydrashocks. Sold it for what I paid...then I bought my first Springfield 1911-A1 "mil spec".

Jake-

Why did you go with Pachmyer grips instead of Hogue wrap arounds? Thats a Beretta 92FS, right?

Quin-
Your still more squishy than my grips are...

Speaking of 1911's, what's a good one to get?  I'm not looking for a designer, target, or safe queen model.  Just reliable and priced reasonably.

For an entry level 1911, the 2 most people seem to have the most luck with are the SA mil-spec

and the Kimber CustomII

For lots of good info check 1911 forums

warlock, what do you mean squishy? You trying to start something mothascratcha?

death451, you get to cocky and I'll tie a knot in your lanyard and stomp on those $40 weak springed tupperware mags.

I am getting wolff power springs so  ha.

The lanyard is the shit you know you want one.  I only paid $20 a piece for all my low cap mags.

Honestly,  because that is what was on the gun when my dad bought it a bunch of years back.  Only since I joind AR15.com have I been interested in swapping parts around.

Plus I've never tried or even seen the Hogue ones for a 92FS yet.

Here is what the Hogue wrap around grips for a 92fs look like:

You know, normally I have my Garmin RINO with me so I can help the captain if he gets lost.
But that day I left it at home
