I recently went to Galyans this past weekend to buy a rifle scope, while there I got an interesting response from both employees, and other customers...

First when I walked it in, I stopped to have it "checked" at the front info desk, where it then was escorted to the gun section upstairs.  The people up there had already just sold me the scope, but then opened the case to mount it (I would have done it myself, but wanted to test their reaction to a BLACK RIFLE).

The kid mounting it, "Travis", was really nice, and was happy to see an Evil Black Rifle come in for the scope mounting...  After assembling the upper/lower, all of the employees in the gun section were saying how it was so "Cool!  What is that!?" or "We don't sell cool guns like that, do we?"  Travis on the other hand knew exactly what it was, he's a very knowledgable young college kid, and asked if it was a kit build Olympic, or assembled.  He wanted to see other people's kit-builds before getting one that way.

So basically the few gun-area employees weren't upset with an evil black rifle, and actually wanted to each get a chance to handle it (after scope was mounted) so they could determine if they like its feel, etc...  This surprised me.

But then you've got your many soccer-moms, bow-hunters, and skeet-shooters there who were walking by, and ALL of them gave me the most EVIL looks imaginable!  One of the soccer moms was overheard while walking away, "Why would anyone bring an "assault rifle" to a sporting goods store!?"

Travis just laughed and was kind of surprised at the looks people were giving us.  Then he says, "I guess this rifle makes them feel inferior with their 10/22's!"

It was an interesting experience though, and I'm glad that I went there, that reason alone made it worthwhile!

PS.  The scope I bought is a Tasco Varmint/Tactical 6x-24x42mm with Mil-Dot Reticlce, Target Turrets.  I haven't had a chance to sight it in yet though.  I can't afford ammo or range fees with it yet.  I hope it goes well.

Hell, I live within a mile of the original Galyan's.  The family is from my town.

They don't like black rifles here either.

Yup!  I just hope it's a good one that's not going to break on me!  I guess I shouldn't borrow my rifle to my brother, or his police Dept anytime soon.  They abuse their guns (and mine)!

bought some overpriced NorthFace wear there- Woodbury.  I am amazed they sell guns at all in such an overpriced yuppy neighborhood such as woodbury.  But glad they do.

LMFAO!    That's For Sure!  I'm surprised people can't see all the liberals there from 150 miles around!  Woodbury sticks out like Berkley California!

The guys at the Gander Mountain out there were pretty knowledgable and friendly.  A sales guy I talked to had Colt, so he knew about the "black rifle".

Do I see a trip to armored fire in the near future?

In the very near future!    I don't have enough $$ to go right now for 2 ==> 3 reasons:

1.) I have $15.00 Cash in my pocket, and I'm using that for gas $$ to get home for Xmas.
2.) I am all out of ammo (Still don't have any left after the last shoot we had).
3.) Can't get more money, because I STILL don't have a job!    I'm VERY DESPERATE!  I'll take a CrackDonalds Job if it means getting a steady paycheck, and working 4-10 PM, 3 days a week!

** Edited because I'm a dumba$$, that's 3 reasons, not 2!!!   ***

I live in Woodbury and I'm not a liberal.  You might want to rethink that statement. Just look at the past election results and look at Washington county in the area of Woodbury and you will find it's mostly Republican.

Granted there are a bunch of soccer Moms but also alot of Republicans.  All republicans were elected in the last election.

I wish Galyan's sold the evil black rifles.

I did not call Woodbury liberal- just yuppy.  Where else can you put a 500,000+ house 3 feet from your neighbor and think you are something special.  They have a lot of great shopping there though.

Cleatus,

It wasn't you that said people in Woodbury were liberals but it was in response to your post.

Now our house isn't close to 500,000 but were also not close to our neighboors like in many other neighborhoods.  So far it has been a good investment to build in Woodbury as our house has increased in price by about 100,000 to 120,000 in three years time. When we were looking for a lot to build on we looked at many other cities and we got a lot in Woodbury in one of the nicer devolpment for 20,000 to 30,000 cheaper then other cities.  It was also a much larger lot then in the other cities.

Maybe we just got luckey but we like living in Woodbury. Granted there are a ton of rich spoiled people and kids in Woodbury but it's still a nice and safe city.

Shopping is nice and close.
