Got up 4am had coffee went out to Stafford State land , had my climber on my back, got up in the tree @ 5:50 with my Ithaca 87 and sat there till 6:08 when it's legal shooting.
I looked and saw a deer about 70 yards but not a clean shot so figured it might turn in a circle and come back.

Sure as shit it came back and at 60 yards while on the move I raised my shotgun aimed the 2.5 power scope towards him and yelled "hey" that gave me .05 seconds to put the cross hairs on him and next thing I saw was a big flash in my scope at 6:24 am. The shot appeared to flip the deer and dropped right there.

When I walked over this is what I found.

That reads 193 lbs.

Not bad for state land opening day!

Took three of us 4 hours to drag and 4 to lift into my truck.

Full sholder mount for sure!

120 is a good number if it still has spots!!*tsk tsk*

Father and law had one hanging in his barn 2 years back i could barely touch his back ankles being flat footed and im 6'5". I believe dressed was over 210. That thing was a big buck. There are definately big bucks in ct, they just arent a dime a dozen like down south.

LOL, CT Is know for quality bucks... Both on private and state land... Not uncommon to see 175-220 dressed...

Congrats on deer by the way... He's nice and mature... He has eluded hunters for a long time. I say 5-7 years old? I took a small one opening day...

Deer are bigger in the North.  Big racks might be more common in the South but body weight is generally bigger the further North you go.

Thanks everyone for the positive comments.

23 years of hunting here in CT, several does, several 4-5 pointers but never something like this. Best part about hunting to me, you can spend time in the woods not see anything, get home and say wow what a great time I had!

Not sure how to take measurements of the rack, might Google that

other pics...
