I pretty much said it in my post - but to reiterate I am just wondering if Ak-74 type rifles are legal here. It doesn't seem that the current state AWB list covers them.

If they are legal, can you guys recommend anyone in state to do a build, preferably in the Hartford area? Thanks ahead of time for the help.

Since Feb.2003, under the present interpretation of the CT "assault weapons" ban, the CSP says (for now anyway) any NON 7.62x39mm semi-auto Kalashnikov style rifles are legal.

However, if you choose to build a 5.45x39mm rifle, you will be using a newly made, stripped receiver from Ohio Ordnance, Rapid Fire, Ewbanks etc... Because these receivers were made after Sept 13, 1994, the rifle you build will have to be neutered. Otherwise, under CT law, you will be assembling an "assault weapon." You CANNOT have on your build a bayo lug, threaded barrel, flash hider, and the muzzle brake must be permanently attached.

So, what you are left with is essentially a Romanian SAR2, CUR2, MKII, WUMII. When I picked up my 5x45x39 rifles, they were in the $300 price range. Price wise, it just didn't make sense to build.

Figure $60-65 for stripped receiver, $200 for U.S. compliance parts (stock set, pistol grip, & trigger group) plus labor if you are not doing the build.

I think it'd also be better/cheaper to buy then build.

WASR-2 from AIM surplus for 289. comes with 2 mags and cleaning kit.

If you order one let me know, I may be interested and maybe your FFL could benefit from a qty discount.

I have an Arsenal SLR-107 I picked up a NGX a couple years ago.

It's the only "AK Type" I have.
Would almost be willing to sell/trade it. I never shoot the damn thing.

Isn't the SLR-107 a 7.62x39?

Yeah.
I meant to type 105.
Numbers all jumbled in my head.

A saiga conversion in .223 post ban configuration  would be a nice addition and be CT legal !!   If you wanted to buy a wasr-2 or 3 and spend a little extra $
you could send it out for a fire control upgrade, refinish and add a permanently attached muzzle brake..   Arsenal did offer an SLR_106 in a ban model. I know it was a limited run I did see few floating around but at $800.00 + I hesitated to make the investment..

Go up a couple of replies, tifosi meant to type SLR-105 which is chambered 5.45x39, CT legal. You are correct though SLR-107 is 7.62x39 and "much more dangerous and evil!"
