thought about a .458 socom, but 45cal bullets are expensive to shoot too many at any given sitting.

That would be fun, but novelty calibers get old and expensive pretty fast
He needs to learn to step into his shooting stance a wee bit, so he doesn't fall on his ass

I've done the odd caliber or "wildcat" thing several times over the years.
Save your money and stay with conventional calibers is the best advice I can give you. The novelty will wear off fast then you're stuck with a high dollar gun with a much smaller percentage of return on resale than a regular caliber. |

its the same bullet as a 45-70.
100 405 gr lead bullets from outdoor america is 19$ 50 from j&k is 12$ primers are primers . 31 grs per of w296 brass is pricey, first time, 67$ per 100 the Lee dies were cheap enough (35$ ish) but they're not very good. first time around about a buck a pop. next time 30c or so. not gonna kill me. it does make finding the brass more important. store bought SBR ammo is $67 per20 |

458 uses std usgi mags.
no magpul (the raised rib in the middle interferes), but the magpul bus doesn't stop at my house. never done the others, don't know about mags, welll the 9mm obviously different , but thats a non starter. |

The novelty will wear off fast then you're stuck with a high dollar gun with a much smaller percentage of return on resale than a regular caliber. nothing wrong with having a oneoff caliber; I had a 6x45 years back assembled on a rem788 action; for some dumbassed reason I traded it off with all the reloading gear. now I've got a 6x45 barrel waiting to be assbled onto an upper and I've having to gather all the loading gear for it; I'm in no hurry as I've been pretty busy with work here lately. but once it gets done, it's done and I'll most likely keep this one. |

And what do ya know....RJ had to do the same thing to the feed ramps, trimmem down do that big ole 458 would feed right.....talk about reinventing the wheel.....lol |
