For some reasons, the pinheads who run Roanoke (like the Mayor, Sherman Lea) insist on maintaining a “Sister city” relationship with some place called Pskov in Russia.  Mayor Lea says this relationship is “the way to understanding peace.”

Since to my regret I don’t have a teleporter to whisk Sherman directly into Mariupol this very afternoon, I’ve got to say maintaining any connection with Russia, no matter how dusted in the sort of bright, sparkly things that attract these people in Roanoke, is very stupid and wrong.  Gov. Youngkin says they need to cut that shit out, and I wholeheartedly agree.

To my embarrassment, Roanoke Virginia seems packed with those “useful idiots” you always hear about.

I live an hour away. Ive always thought roanoke was a run down shithole. Going to the civic center last month only confirmed my feelings. That said roanoke has been liberal for as long as i can remember.
Not surprising they want to keep with a russian city.

Pskov is the home of the 76th Guards Air Assault Division and probably has more new widows per capita than any city in Russia. So they got that going for them.

I used to live in Roanoke County. Even back then there was a very large and active socialist presence. I imagine it has gotten worse, not better.

Pskov VDV have been pretty conclusively linked to atrocities. Wonder if that'll change things.

They sure found a way to get rid of the gun shows at the civic center.

That's too bad. I used to enjoy working those shows back when Richard Davis ran them.

Now that we've had a little time to get a glimpse of the atrocities that Russian troops are committing in Ukraine, I thought I'd give this a bump.  Perhaps somebody from Roanoke can report if the "sister city" arrangement as a conduit to peace is still working out for the good people of Roanoke and they are still as attached to some shithole in Russia.

....or if the "useful idiots" that Lenin talked about were still running things in the Star City.

I live near Albemarle County, and when I just went to look up Charlottesville's sister city, I discovered that they have 4 of them:

Poggio a Caiano, Italy, became Charlottesville's first sister city in 1976
   Pleven, Bulgaria (2004), and
   Besancon, France (2006), and
   Winneba, Ghana (2010)

The only one that makes sense to me is the one in Ghana, since that's where Jonestown was, and visiting C'Ville kinda reminds me of what that experience must have been like.

I see that you guys got C'Ville beat.  Roanoke actually has seven Sister Cities.  There's no clean Copy/Paste list for me to do because it's all in graphics.  The cities are in Brazil, Kenya, China, Poland, Russia, France and Korea.

The Roanoke Sister Cities Council responded to Youngkin's statement:
We do not get involved with politics nor take a political stand on any issue,” the letter reads. “Our people-to-people relationships are the best way for us to demonstrate to the people of Pskov and Russia at large that the citizens of the Roanoke Valley and the American people are not their enemies, nor do we consider them to be ours.
I'm sure that's a big relief to the peoples of the world.
