I’m not much of a help other than you want to buy an adjustable Schuster gas system. Only thing of its kind. Very easy to install (2 min with a rachette). It allows you to shoot modern ammo offerings (ie what’s barely findable these days) without bending the opp rod.

200% would suggest this as a necessary purchase if the gun is a shooter. After that you are golden.

FWIW, there will be several of us that are relatively fluent in Garand at the Chantilly gunshow next weekend,

as well as a guy that wrote a book on the parts

Not sure if it is the S&K gunshow but I remember some garand folks coming to that show.
