Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens

Wife and I are headed down this weekend to celebrate our anniversary.

Question - does Colonial Williamsburg or Busch Gardens have a policy or issue with concealed carry?

Searched their website and the 13 pages in HTF but couldn't find anything.

Also, any places of interest to see or do on Friday?

Don't know about their weapons policy but they have a ghost tour in the evenings that's pretty cool.

just went to BG on the 9th of august, didn't see any signs about CCW and their was no "check point" in the park.

If you are gonna ride the coasters its gonna hurt (depending on how you carry) because they try to squeeze you into as little space as possible!

as far as stuff to do on Friday, if you are into history; williamsburg, jamestown, yorktown, historic triangle.

Or for people watching it cant get any better than the williamsburg pottery factory!

Yeah, not sure if carrying inside the park due to the rides and retention, but more importantly not carrying and having lunch in the German Festhaus (aka adult refreshments).

Will have to check out the Ghost tours.

years ago the park had abc control areas, now the whole park is abc on aside from ride lines and children's play areas!

so feel free to "walkabout" with beer in hand!

We were just at BG and Great Wolf Lodge over the weekend. No weapons allowed in the park..If you plan on doing any rollercoasters, you won't want to anyway, IMO.

You're good to go anywhere in Colonial Williamsburg though.

Yeah, staying overnite and gonna secure it in the vehicle while at BG. Walking around CW and at nite in the hotel, I want it with me.

They have a no weapons policy but they don't do a pat down or have metal detectors. Now that restaurant carry is legal so long as you don't drink, there really is no legal issue with carry, other than they don't want you to. Keep it deep and secure and STFU. The worst they can do is ask you to leave if you get caught. Not likely.

I'll tell you what, man. You are talking about two completely different experiences. It is a shame you don't have more time to spend. Neither one can be taken in during a single day.

It'll be hard not to have a good time.

I know, we wanted to do a full 4 day down there but we also have a gift of a room at a bed and breakfast in Middleberg for Sunday. Maybe next time when we can get away.

I was just there the other day. No weapons allowed. With that in mind there was an incident where someone was carrying a weapon on the Divinci Cradle. It came loose and ended up at the bottom of the ride (this was around 1995). No one said anything and was not found until park closing. There is an area at the bottom of the ride (underneath andjust forward of it in a little pit like area) that seems to collect everything from wallets, change, sunglasses, dentures, etc... Try to explain that one...lol

CW has no signs of any kind posted about concealed weapons and it's all private property owned by a nonprofit foundation. If you go, don't forget a visit to the powder magazine to hear from the (usually) very pro2A interpreters there. If you had asked this time last year, I would have warned you that the Colonial Parkway was a National Park, but that's not necessary anymore.

I would say no weapons allowed, they search bags and their is a metal detector. I purchased a wooden sword for my son and they would not let me take it until I was leaving the park and then they walked me to the gate.

Several folks on the opencarry.org Virginia forum have reported open carrying in CW with no problems at all. (and some interesting interactions with the enactors).

1. No problem with carry in CW as far as I know.

2. Busch Gardens has always had a policy against guns (and other weapons) but enforcement has varied. Before 9/11 it was basically unenforced. After 9/11 they had metal detectors for a year or two then took them away, I don't believe they have them anymore. I haven't seen any the last few years, but they do look in bags. The ABC/alcohol stuff is no longer an issue as long as you don't drink, as of July 1. Only issue is the park's policy.

3. The only issues I can think of in that area are the Colonial Parkway (which is federally owned - I believe it's a national park but I'm not 100% sure), and then of course all the military bases but you won't wander onto one of those by accident.

Last Year I watched a guy get "escorted" out of BG by the local LEO's because of a concealed carry. I asked one of the officers what their procedure was (I'm LEO also) and they said once the guy was off BG property he could come down to the station and get his weapon, as far as what BG does he said charges are rarely pressed and it's up to BG if they are allowed into the park or banned
