Anybody interested in meeting at Pungo this weekend?
I think subzero is also going to make it. All we have to do is figure an exact day. Does anybody have a preference?
Sunday is good for me. If Chris isn't working, I'll try and talk him into coming as well.
Sunday works out fine for me. Does anybody have a problem with meeting Sunday when Pungo opens? |
When it opens? Sure.
Now for the dumb question: how do I get there? |
I always have to use mapquest. Hell if I can ever remember how to get there myself. Pungo Range 6025 Marvin Road Virginia Beach, Virginia 23457 Phone#426-9953 or 427-2627 I could be wrong, but I think they open at noon on Sunday. I will call them tomorrow and check. |
You guys better be there today. If I drive an hour for nothing, I'm going to be pissed.
Do yah' All mind if the Northern Crew would come visit sometime?
Not at all. |
D'oh. Except for one stuck case, that was a fun afternoon. Finally got the ACOG sighted in, then proceeded to bang steel at 200. I like how clean everything is as LGC, but shooting steel is a LOT of fun.
I'm not sure if I had a stuck case though. The extractor claw had ripped the section of rim off. One little tap from a cleaning rod and it popped out. I guess it's finally time to clean this sucker. My second failure ever. My other one was on round number 1 from my first AR. |
It was a fun time. Pungo has done a bunch of improvements. Adding multiple steel targets at 25, 50, 100, and 200 yards was a great idea and loads of fun. I'm going to stop fooling around and become a member next time I visit. $70 bucks a year is not bad. Lafayette might be better for pistols, but Pungo rules for AR shooting.
Dport proved again he is one hell of a shooter. |
That is being charitable. I wasn't the one shooting a 10.5 at 200 yards with an Aimpoint. That being said, I'm sure it was easier with the ACOG. In fact, all of us were easily banging away at steel at 200yards distant. |
If I had woken up earlier I would have gone. I always loved shooting the silouetes, glad to hear they added more. Maybe next weekend.
Bump for this weekend: June 11 and/or 12.
I got ammo I need to shoot or move it. I'd rather shoot it. |
Consider me in! |
I also got 40 rounds of 77gr SMK. I'd like to see what it will do out of my 1:9. |
My internet gets disconnected tomorrow. I'll be at Pungo on Sunday at 1300.
IM sent. I'm going to try and make it. |
I'll give it a shot. Hopefully it'll be as nice out as it was last week. I'll bring more mags for the Glock, less crap overall.
Hey, would you guys mind a new AR shooter someone like, oh lets see....myself coming down and shooting with you guys one weekend. I have had the thing since october and have not shot it yet sad huh... oh well the life of a working man.
Hell no, I would not mind. We would be glad to shoot with you. |
Thanks I am looking forward to it. |

Sounds like a great time......Too bad I'm out in the hills of SW VA. I'm not complaining, but it just seems like all the VA members are on the coast or in NOVA.....maybe I need to check out the Tennessee hometown forum......hmmmmmm. NO...Blasphemy!!
Anybody near Abingdon give me a holler if you want to shoot. I know about 5 or 6 other AR owners in the area. |
I haven't shot at Pungo (in about 20 yrs) and was thinking of going out Sunday.
Couple questions maybe someone could help me with. Is the range wife friendly? Like extra seating, reasonable range officers, etc? The Mrs often comes with me to the range and shoots on occasions, but not knowing the Pungo layout wasn't sure if she'd enjoy it. Any ammo restrictions or odd policies I should be aware of before showing up? Anything out of ordinary I should bring? Bug repellant? |
One of these days I'll make it back to VB. Pungo was alot of fun, especially pegging the steel handgun targets with a carbine.
It's been about a year since I've gone but I used to shoot out there almost every weekend.
*When the range is cold, there are no moving of firearms to and from the line. *Usually extra chairs so friends/family can pull up a seat behind you. *I think it's still early in the summer for the swarms of bugs. Can get bad. *Range officers that I knew were always cool people. *Bathrooms weren't that great back then, suggest poopin before hand. That's about all I can think of. Hope that helped a little. ETA: Ammo restrictions. No AP ammo on the steel targets. |
So...Tomorrow around 1300?
I've never met any of you off the boards, so I guess I'll just wander over to the 200 yd side and look for AR's. I've been wanting to use my new M3 at longer ranges for a while now. I remember the 200yd area only had two benches and a prone area I think. I've done a few cruises so I'm used to waiting in line. |
Thanks for the info Wes.
I'm shooting for 1300ish as well. I've got a 14.5" that hasn't seen anything more than an indoor 25m range that needs to get sighted in. |
I will be their at 1PM, that’s when the range opens on a Sunday.
Man I wish I did not have to work tommorow...Oh well I will keep my eyes open....maybe next week.............say sunday afternoon....
Another great range trip to Pungo. It was nice to finally meet Wes. Shooting dports 9mm A1 carbine was a blast. I got another three hundred rounds through my 10.5", plus some rounds through my M4 and 1911. Wes has one sweet RRA M4. Thanks for allowing me to try out the Aimpoint M3 and Troy flip-up sights. Both are now on my wish list. It was a great day and loads of fun.
Yeah, great meeting all of you too.
Maybe Grant will give me a discount on the magnifier since I sold you on a few things. Then I can sell you on the magnifier as well! Oh and dport, On the Troy rail I can lock the TD panel all the way back so that it is right on the lower. Forgot to try it at the range. |
Wound up getting there a bit after 2, not sure if you guys were still around.
Did see a nice AR on the 200 line. I was on the 100 with a 20" and a 14.5". Nice day for shooting... I'll have to walk the line more next time and learn some faces. |
We spent most of our time on the 25 yard range, then moved on to 100 & 200. Dport, subzero, Wes, and myself all arrived between 1-2PM. |
Went down and shot at Pungo this afternoon was nice. Pretty much had the range to myself, well the last 40 minutes I did. Still looking forward to getting up with you guys sometime and shooting.
We do need to start setting up another shoot. Thanks for the reminder. |
