Have there been ANY major news sources which have reported that the Libertarian Party and Green Party Presidential candidates were arrested last night?

Frightening when your news organizations don't  mentions something as important as presidential candidates being arrested.

If you're not frightened by this, you SHOULD be.

Assuming it happened it should be reported. But that about it. I mean its real simple - you cross a police line, you get arrested.

University glows in presidential debate spotlight

By JIM SUHR

Associated Press

ST. LOUIS - Washington University again became a living lesson in democracy Friday, hosting its third presidential debate in a dozen years. The campus was alive with protesters and backers of both candidates.

Classes at the tree-lined, hilltop school gave way to the glaring spotlight of a nationally televised matchup between President Bush and Sen. John Kerry - and the security lockdown that came with it. Streets around much of the campus were barricaded and guarded by police, including two dozen in riot gear near where hundreds of placard-waving protesters massed.

Protesters had no direct path to the school's athletic complex, which was converted into a red-white-and-blue television studio for the 90-minute debate between Bush and his Democratic rival.

Just as the debate began, two third-party presidential candidates purposely crossed a police barricade and were arrested. Green Party presidential candidate David Cobb and Libertarian Party candidate Michael Badnarik were protesting their exclusion from the debate.

Cobb's message: "To expose the undemocratic nature of these debate, this election and our government. These are not debates, these are infomercials."

"This is a great feather in our cap," said Steve Givens, head of the school's presidential debate steering committee. "The visibility is the topping on the cake."

Not far away was the sprawling media den, a gymnasium lined with rows of tables, TVs and telephone lines for most of the 2,500 journalists from around the globe who sought credentials. A covey of giant satellite trucks were crammed outside.

Sorry, but in the context of the presidential debates, this ranks right up there with a "dog bites man" story.  It just isn't news.

So stories about a roanoke council woman allegedly spotted driving intoxicated at the Tanglewood mall, are news, and stories about Presidential candidates, who were arrested, which are on the ballot in your state, are not?

Its about context.  I have no idea about the other story you describe, but it sounds like it would be of local interest because the councilperson is responsible for making decisions that affect the people in that area.

On the other hand, the fact that two candidates who will have absolutely no chance of winning more than a small handful of votes in a few states got arrested for crossing a police line has no impact on anybody.  The story is about the debates and the race for the presidency.  Two grandstanding charactors trying to break into an event to which they were not part doesn't add anything to this story.

The fact that these two guys apparently wanted to get arrested greatly reduces the newsworthiness of the incident.
