On Sunday there is a match at the ISRA range.  It is a 100 yard reduced
target highpower match (standing, sitting rapid, prone rapid, prone
slow) that can be fired with a .22 rifle or vintage military rifle.  It could also count as a CMP competition qualifier

Prone, slow-fire:  Two
minutes for two sighting shots, followed by twenty minutes to fire twenty shots
for record, using the MR-31 target.  (The
600 yard target scaled-down for use at 100 yards.)  Only one round at a time will be loaded into
the rifle.

Prone, rapid-fire:  Two
minutes for two sighting shots, followed by eighty seconds to fire ten shots
for record, using the SR-21 target.  (The
300 yard target scaled-down for use at 100 yards.)  Competitors will be required to perform one
reload of their rifle during the string, beginning the string with only two
rounds loaded on most semi-autos and five rounds loaded on most bolt-actions.

Sitting, rapid-fire:  Two
minutes for two sighting shots, followed by eighty seconds to fire ten shots
for record, using the SR-1 target.  (The
200 yard target scaled-down for use at 100 yards.)  Competitors will be required to perform one
reload of their rifle during the string, beginning the string with only two
rounds loaded on most semi-autos and five rounds loaded on most bolt-actions.

Standing, slow-fire:  Two
minutes for two sighting shots, followed by ten minutes to fire ten shots for
record, using the SR-1 target.  (The 200
yard target scaled-down for use at 100 yards.)
Only one round will be loaded into the rifle at a time.

What about
the Vintage Military Rifle Match?

Same match, different purpose.

Many of us enjoy firing a
variety of rifles that would be out of place at a fiercely competitive,
conventional High Power Rifle match.  The
quick and simple format and low entry fee of ISRA’s
Combined CMP Qualification and Vintage Military Rifle Matches create the
opportunity for military-surplus rifle enthusiasts to have an enjoyable morning
giving one of their favorite pieces a workout.
Whether it’s a WWI Enfield or Springfield,
an old Mauser or Arisaka,
or that FAL you assembled, this is a great chance to check function, get sight
settings and see what that old war-horse can do on the reduced distance
National Match Course.

Low Power
Across-the-Course Match

(You made that up, right?)

Well, yes, we made it up.  Somebody had to do it!  The Low Power Match is an opportunity to have
all the fun of shooting the various stages of the High Power National Match
Course - the different positions, rates of fire and distances (as simulated by
reduced targets) - with a “smallbore” rifle.  A .22!

Why?

1.) Because some people just
don’t have an appropriate center-fire rifle
, or they have a far more
accurate .22.

2.) Because there are a lot
of .22s
in circulation that have been sold by the CMP, are highly suitable rifles for this sort of competition and really deserve a day at the range – target
sighted, detachable magazine rifle ranging from Mossberg M44s and Remington
M511s to Remington M37s and Winchester M52s and many others.

3.) Because center-fire ammunition for High Power competition is
getting quite costly – firing the course with .22s should allow good practice for High Power competitors at
greatly reduced expense
.

4.) Because to shoot .22s competitively at 100 yards will require some careful attention to the
wind
, an aspect of conventional high power which is otherwise lost when
shooting reduced distance matches.

5.) Frankly, because there are a whole bunch of rather staid smallbore
shooters
living in their own world and we’d like to mix it up with them and
see if they’re any fun!  (I won’t even dare say “see if they’re any
good” because I think they can probably shoot rings around us with .22s.  But maybe some of them would like to prove
that?)

So, be an early-adaptor!  Be a part of something new!  Bring an accurate .22 rifle (or any rim-fire
for that matter) to this new event and see what you can do.

If your rifle is not 100% suited
to this match (tubular magazines for instance), we will try to accommodate
you.  Come to have fun or come to set the
world on fire.  It’s already been proven
that a .22 caliber Springfield M2 could set the pace at on of our 200 yard
matches, so this should be a cinch!  (Or maybe not.)

Low Power
Across-the-Course!  This is what you’ve
been waiting for!
