To those of us who relish our freedoms...I just got through listening to the most interesting and enlightening interview in a long time. I heard it on radioliberty.com and it is under the 9/26/06 date entitled "Life Under Nazism". This is an interview with Mrs. Werthmann, a lady who tells the story of seeing the rise of Nazism and its comparative values to the United States. I hope you listen...it will be well worth your time. Keep your powder dry!

I couldn't agree more.  The parallels have been remarkable for a long time.  But with the advent of this "War on Terrorism", the police state is acellerating at break-neck speeds!

Keep the powder dry indeed.  Damn shame we relinguished the militia a long time ago.  Can't have freedom without responsibility.  Those unwilling to accept their responsibilities will live as slaves.

Adjust your tinfoil hats.  While you are ranting about foreign survellience, Mayor Daily is putting up more video cameras all over Shitcago for the "Olympic Games".  Gov't spying has been around for a long time.  The local level is far more dangerouse and has been around much longer.  Let's not forget what the Clinton's did with the FBI files of their political opponents.

Hitler was a socialist. He did much to curb "greedy" businesses and enacted many "social programs". Sound familiar? How many ARFcom guys vote for the Dems? If anyone is like hitler, it's the Dems.

The USA is NOWHERE NEAR a police state. For those of you that have never ventured into Eastern Europe, parts of Asia or even the middle-east (Gulf states), you dont have a clue what a POLICE state is. Your only evidence is at airports (TSA) and a few cameras mounted in selected areas that can be easily avoided.  IF you dont speed, or run red-lights, then they'll leave you alone. Dont like IPASS? Take local. Dont like the cameras in Chicago, DONT GO to Chicago (I avoid it!).

I meet extremely well educated paranoid schizo's everyday in my blue, academic-oriented county (yes, it's downstate) that insist Prez BUSH is spying on them with the phone-tap program. Well, I hate to burst their bubbles but the governement doesnt give a DAMN what they say on the phone. Has anyone every been on a surveillance? Does anyone know how hard it is to spy on just ONE person? Do you know how many resources it takes to cover just one bad guy, 24-7? Even if they did listen in, and you were overheard speaking to some AQ guy, chances are you'll get away with it because their hands are full doing other stupid things.  Even if you get convicted, you'll only get a few years in jail .  We dont even excute prisoners for espionage!!!

I agree that there are cases of over-zealous and over ambitious district attorneys and bureaucrats that would go for the easy kill over pursuing real criminals, but that does NOT make a police state. So for those of you that think the world is coming to an end, get real and take the tin foil off your heads - youre overheating.

My mother also grew up in Austria around the same age of this women, and I heard many of the same stories from her.  I really see a lot of parrelelism in the begining here in a subtle way.  And I did not even have the tin foil hat on.  Its just natural for the people of the masses to want to get the most for doing the least.  We are just headed in that direction but in a longer period of time.

Does she happen to look like this?:

We are definitely trending towards the ignorant masses willing to trade freedoms in favor of "security".

And if anybody hasn't already, read  Unintended Consequences.
