News Advisory:
The Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) announced today that it will be holding a major hunting safety event on Oct. 30 and 31 at its rifle range located in Bonfield, Ill. The ISRA Range is located at 1489 North Warner Bridge Road (7000 West), 4 miles south of Rt. 113 and 1.5 miles north of Rt. 17.
Entitled "Sighting-in Days," the event is designed to give hunters the opportunity to sight in their rifles and handguns prior to the opening of firearm deer season. Experienced ISRA staff members will be on hand to deliver hunting safety and other topical briefings to those who attend.
The event is open to the public and runs from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on both days. A nominal fee of $10 per firearm sighted in will be charged to cover costs. Members of the ISRA range will be admitted free of charge. Eye and hearing protection will be provided. Food and refreshments will be available.
ISRA Executive Director Richard Pearson will be available on- site to members of the media from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. to discuss Sighting-in Days, the upcoming elections, and other issues of interest to the state's hunters and sportsmen.
"Enhancing the safety of our outdoor traditions is a guiding principle of the association," said ISRA Executive Director Richard Pearson. "That is why we have chosen to open our range for a public sighting-in day this year. This event will give hunters of every experience level the opportunity to sight-in their firearms in a safe and secure environment and have ready access to safety experts for any questions they may have. I've received unprecedented public response to this event. If all goes well, we'll look to grow this event in the years to come."
