I'm retiring this year after 25 years active federal service. Looking for security type jobs and a decent place to live in Nevada. Any suggestions?

In the Las Vegas area, Wachenhut of Nevada is very big on hiring former Law Enforcement and Military.  They will treat you like shit and pay you $8 to $10 per hour.  The big name casinos are muich better payers ($12 to $18 per hour), so I would suggest to try them.

The trouble woth security positions is they, in general, pay very poorly wit $8 to $11 per hour aerage.

I would re-think the security option!

When I say security, I'm not talking about the fat guy at the gate that checks ID cards kinda jobs. I'm looking for something in the threat and vulnerability assessment area. They pay quite well when you can find them.

Thanks for the responses though.

What was your Mil training? Many Engineering firms are looking for Threat and Vulnerability Consultants. If your qualified for this type of work you could make a very, very healthy paycheck. IM me if your qualified in this area.

I know the DOE has some guys that guard some sensitive equipment at a compound in north las vegas. They seem like a squared away crew and occasionally get some action.

They treat you like shit and pay you [Wage is $19.50/hr after 10-week basic training ($14/hr during training)].  Security Police Officer

I retired from the Navy at 25 myself in 04 and my first job out was with WSI, hired on as a LT / supervisor.  Lots of Army at WSI, so you'll feel at home.  They shoot M4s, SIG 226 .40 S&W, M240B & D, M203, and more coming when I left last year.  They were starting up a SRT program.  E-mail or pm if you want more info.  Oh, and get ready for unionization.  Took some getting used to for me.

If you are coming to Vegas to work security look at Loomis. most of the guys are retired military or just plain retired. Easy work and it is pritty much 8 to 4. The pay is like 13 an hour or something like that. Brinks is OK to but they pay 11 something. The test site(Wackenhut) is good work and good pay but not everyone likes being that far out.
