Me and a few boys from work are wondering if there is any feral hog hunting within a day's travel of the Vegas/Pahrump area.  My hankerin' for bacon is driving me to kill! hn

Actually I think Cali is your best bet.  LOTS of hogs there in the foothills.

I thought there were hog hunts in Mesquite, NV? Try asking at Spurlock's or Accuracy Gun Shop.

Mesquite has them.....

I can't remember though who ran the operation though.

Researching it a little shows that there's actually an infestation on the Catalina Isles, but I doubt they'd let me on the ferry with my 629.

I'll try calling Spurlock's or Accuracy.  Thanks for the lead.

Best,

You could always set up a stand over a buffet line at a local casino.

Is there small game permits and/or large game permits in Cali?
Are hogs considered small game ?
Whats the cost for the hunting license?

I have a retired Metro buddy and his parents live in Overton. He has been asking me for years to go and do the wild hog/pig shoot in either Overton or Mesquite, but I can't remember which.

From my understanding there is a rancher in that area that has a lot of acreage and he has wild hogs/pigs destroying his land and he lets shooters have at it. I kinda' remember my buddy telling me that they were hunting them near the Overton Arm, so perhaps the rancher's property is in Overton rather than Mesquite.

I'll have to ask my Bro the next time I talk to him.

Joe,
Wild pig would be so much better than jack rabbits.  This is a hunt worth of .308, though I might be tempted to use the FAL with Aimpoint.

To hunt wild pigs in Cali, you have to have a hunting licence and pig tags. The area by the grapevine has some of the best pig hunting, from what I hear (if you can afford it). It is private property (Tejon Ranch). The pigs in California are mostly in the coastal ranges.

There are ferral hogs in the river bottom near Mesquite NV. There was a guy who guided with dogs for around $200. Dont know his name or if he is still in business. No lisence or tag is needed as they are not a native species.

the name i recall is "(something) Hog Outfitters" or something like that.  I think they charge $400, they guide, use dogs, haul out the pig, and butcher it. I believe there's an extra charge if you shoot/kill one of their dogs.

A buddy of mine has gone a few times. I can ask him the particulars and post 'em back up. He has some funny stories, and some crazy videos of his times out there--i think he's gone at least half a dozen times.  He's got 3-4 mounts in his living room--those tusks are scary sharp.   One of the videos, you see the hog charge the group, and he's shot dead just about 6 feet from the closest guy. Shotguns and .44 mags are common, they say.
