And I can’t forget to mention Scot45, who regrettably had to rush his dog to the vet because of an unexpected illness. I am glad that your pooch is going to be ok Scot. I was a very concerned when you called to tell me he was sick. Let it be known that even though Scot’s dog was ill, Scot still called to check on the status of the crew and to see how the hunt was going. Now that’s a team player!

For the members that couldn’t make it who either posted in the forum or IM’d me, thanks for having the courtesy to let me know. Hopefully next time you can participate.

With that said, we had an outstanding time! I believe that nothing brings camaraderie and forms alliances between people like a winning team endeavor.

When we reached our hunting destination we first conducted a safety briefing and group discussion on how to safely conduct the hunt and still have fun.

We had six participants and three trucks, so it was agreed by all that there would be two people in each truck with one person lighting and driving, and the other standing by prepared to deploy out of the vehicle, load his firearm and engage the varmints.

Some shooters were utilizing AR15’s, an M1A Scout Rifle, an SKS, and some were using shotguns (I used a SG and a Ruger MKII all night because my AR was buried under all my gear and I didn't feel like diggin' for it). As a safety precaution we devised a plan for each shooter to follow during actual firing (i.e. to avoid ricochets and any possible crossfire from the HP rifles, etc.).

We concluded that all three vehicles would head down the same road in the same direction. To thoroughly ensure safety we put a distance of at least a mile and a half between each vehicle, and in order to always know the location of any vehicle at any given time we were in constant radio communication with each other.

We didn’t see any Coyotes (although I am sure they saw us) and I am confident they will be feasting for a while, because we must have downed at least 14 or 16 Jacks (maybe more). We did see a couple of Grey Foxes but we didn’t shoot those.

There’s one pic in particular that has to get posted. It is MQ-1_Spec’s Redneck Varmint Huntin’ platform/contraption! This thing is the shit, and definitely a must see.

Needless too say we had a great and safe time with no arguments, no injuries and no bullshit. Everyone worked as team members with the other person’s safety in mind. I would hunt with the same crew ANY time and I can’t wait to do it again.

GLad you guys had a great time. All I could think about while at work last nite was that I was missing out on shooting and meeting everyone.  Plus, I got off work at 5am only to find some dickhead stole the centercaps off of my GMC from the Venetian parking lot. But then again I did make some good cash last nite, and met a few pieces of pie...but I didnt get to kill any bunnies.

You really did miss out on a great time. My only regret is that the trip was too short. Like MQ-1 said, perhaps next time we can make a weekend of it. Then we can hunt Jacks at night and call in Coyotrs in the early morning.

I'll work on organizing that future camping trip/hunt, as I think it will be a another great time (only longer!).

I didn't speak to Mostow241 about the Javelena, but I did some research and found that Javelena are not part of the rodent family - as often rumored.

I had a friend that used to live in Arizona and he is the one that told me they are in the rodent family. Well, I guess he was wrong.

All I know is the hunt them up near Kingman Arizona which is about 1.5-3 hrs. from you guys depending on where they hunt.  I'll see what I can find out from the locals down here but I think the season on them  is jan.-feb.



Edit to add:  I almost forgot thanks everyone that was a great time I really enjoyed it.  Looking forward to the next time. Special thanks to Joe(Ishoot2live) I think he went to alot of trouble to organize and the night wouldn't have been such a success without him.

I believe you can find Javelena in the Mesquite area. At least you could 15 years ago.

man i wish i could have gone. the only upside was that i got dragged to a casino (which i don't really like doing and the wynn, no less) and actually won, a pretty good bit too.  i NEVER win, why i don't go.  

just to see that rig in the back of the truck.  drivin' around like some kinda african bushmaster safari king................cept a redneck in the desert huntin rabbits........classic!  sounds like a would have been a little undergunned w/ the 10/22.  

with only six people, i think we can do more of these smaller like that on the weekends.
