Northern Nevada is experiencing major rainfall, leading to flood conditions. News folks spread fear and panic.  The VFD fire engine is patrolling my area, presumably looking for trouble. Saw the local backhoe guy heading down the road. There is a puddle in my driveway. Gunsap is stuck at Walmart, many call-ins.

I got my poncho out.

LT, lemme know when you need us to break out the boat and rescue you!

We've got a little lake in our horse arena. Poor guys standing out there under the shelter looking miserable.

"Why aren't we in Wisconsin - at least it SNOWS in Wisconsin and we don't have to stand in puddles ...."

I need to figure out how to trench out to our drainage ditch, as I swear that our little lake is at least 6" deep now. Not at all good for the horse's hooves .

Anyone got a DitchWitch they could lend me?

Sorry to hear about the miserable conditions for your horse, GX

Are you guys finally starting to dry out up there?

All our lakes are ice crusted mudholes with a dusting of snow for color. This adversity is what makes us hardy folks. When we kicked tha Taliban's heinies a few years ago, they loved to show on network news how inhospitible a land Afghanistan is. I looked out my living room window and at the TV and thought it looked like home to me.
Have really enjoyed watching the californian's dismay at 4wheel drive's inability to stay on the ice and snow covered roads at 55mph. See ya in the ditches, infiltrators!
I'll take this over the morass of "humanity" that is Las Vegas anyday.

Too true!

At least they tried to stand on what used to be the lake.

1300 lbs of horse isn't much of a match for 1" of ice over 6" inches of slush. I went out to feed the other night when things looked frozen, and our eldest horse got all excited and tried to make his way straight across the ice sheet (he gets pretty excited about feeding time).

His expression was priceless when he sunk into that muck. I don't think I had ever seen a horse look more surprised without actually bolting.

*** Amazingly accurate! There's a layer of ice over a semi-solid, soupy-mud-mix of slush. And when some of that mud used to be road apples ...... it "adds a little somthing" to the air, too

*** I couldn't have expressed the sentiment better. Thanks GM
