When I was stationed at Nellis AFB in the 1980's there used to be a local gun store called "the Survival Store". They were located at Spring Mountain and Polaris (if I've got that right). Are they still in existence these days? Got a couple AK's there.

Ahhhh, the 80's..... What a great time that was (for buying guns). Be Safe. Joe |

Survival Store (owned by an Ex Porn star) is on Spring Mt. and Arville area.
There used to be another surplus store on Spring Mt. and Polaris but is now located by Nellis and Bonanza area. Hope this helps. V OUT |

The new survival store is not owned by the same people it was back in the old days. I know as I worked there. The old owner was Chuck Traynor who was married to Linda Lovelace and then Marylin Chambers. He then married Crissee Boslee known as "BO" Who also posed for Penthouse and made several videos and posters. We did a lot with the old SOF Conventions. SubGun matches, Photo ops with the girls and live fire demos in the desert. It was a fun place to work and I really enjoyed it. Chuck sold the palce to the current owner and moved to Fl. He passed away a few years ago.

I remember seeing Bo working behind the counter when I was in there a couple times. Whatever happened to her? She had a really hot bod.
I didn't know you worked in there Tony.
I used to hang out in there all the time. Bought a lot of guns in there. I used to shoot in their indoor "combat" matches and their bowling pin matches. I still have a couple trophies sitting on my loading bench from those old survival store matches. In fact, that was so long ago that political correctness had not yet ruined the country. At the time, I was working for Mercy Ambulance and we used to drive down there in the ambulance, in uniform, on duty and shoot the match: me and my partner. Then we would tell dispatch and they would let another crew with two buddies of mine go down and they shot the match on duty also. I used to primarily talk to Gary when I was in there. There is another store today; called the Survival Store on Spring Mountain where the old man sits behind the glass and all that but it isn't the same place and has no connection with the store this thread is about. Yeah, I started the Pin Matches there, and still have some of my trophies also. Still can't seem to part with them. In fact I still have the old steel pin table and we are using it for the subgun matches at Desert Sportsman. Gary is selling cars, Chris is still playing Jazz, Charlie is working at the Airport, Samantha is tending bar and "BO" just got re-married to a guy in FL. Marilyn lives in CA and still looks pretty good. She just sold a bunch of her guns. She had a nice single action with "Marilyn Chambers" engraved on the backstrap. We sold it on Gunbroker to a collector.

Kind of sad to hear that the "old" Survival Store isn't around any more. The 1980's were a fun time.
I swung by there a few days ago with the "CREW" just to see the inside. I had no idea they had a range. Lots of stuff if you look under all the piles, might even find a few treasures if ya spent enuff time looking.

I have seen Charlie a few times when I was working at Station 19 and running calls to the airport. It took me awhile to remember where I knew him from. I haven't had the chance to say anything to him about the old Survival Store days.

Anyone have an address on this place? It's always fun to go rummage through places like that and find stuff "you just gotta have." Since I'm bored - today would be a good day to do that! :)

Thanks Jim. Found out it's called the National Survival Store in the phone book. :)
The good old days. Bought my first machine gun there, a NIB Mac 10/45 with suppressor for $600! I photographed "BO" for a survival store poster and she knew how to pose naked with a machinegun. If you didn't get the opportunity to see her do a striptease you really missed a SHOW.
SG, A MAC 10/.45 is a submachine gun, not a machine gun. A submachine gun fires pistol rounds full auto, and a machine gun fires rifle rounds full auto. Be Safe. Joe |

Is this guy for real?? I guess the "be safe" guy is also the "gun terminology" hall monitor. I just went into escrow on a vacation condo in Vegas. Are there any other forums where Vegas guys hang out and fools like this don't?? |
Dear Mr. HELLBANGER, That was a polite FYI post response regarding SMG's and MG's. Very round room and not intended on making anybody look stupid, until you decided to be a monkey on a typewriter. If proper firearm terminology and correct nomenclature disturbs you, I suggest that you sell your newly acquired condo here in Freedom Land, and remain in Kommiefornia. If you believe that I am a fool, and that is your opinion, you certainly have a right to it. A word of caution though: This is not the forum for a Kommiefornian to start trouble with locals. Joe OUT |

I doubt very much that most "locals" would have any problem with me commenting on a patronizing tight assed post such as yours. Did you really think the guy didn't know the difference? Besides, read my post again, s-l-o-w-l-y. I wasn't talking to you so stay out of my face safety/terminology nazi. |
HELLBANGER, If the guy had a problem with me clarifying his post then HE should have said something. I read your assinine response again s-l-o-w-l-y, and if you weren't talking to ME, why the FUCK did you quote me when you made your Sissy-Mary statement regarding my post? |
I'll ask again. Is there another forum where guys like the above assfuck aren't running around "correcting" everyone? If not, I guess I'll be spending more time shooting instead of dealing with internet commandos like "Ishoot2correctpeople".
He's all yours. Have fun. |
Don't go away angry HELLBANGER, just GO away.... Good riddance OUT |
Hellbringer,
Perhaps you could spend less time shooting, and spend your hard earned money here at (one) of our many assfucking ranches.... You can also pick the forum of your choice?? For the proper RELEASE!!!!!!!!!!!! Then you can go HOME to KALIFORNIA..........and ..........do whatever you want. Until the next time...........you'll remember Nevada. We are still free. Have a nice day. |
Try here |

Actually HELLBRINGER, a REAL machinegun is belt fed. Be safe, ANIMUS |

You guys either agree to disagree, kiss and make up, take it to the General Fourm or log off ....split hairs somewhere else! Now, lets go BLOW SOMETHIN UP..... "G" BTW...Good link Jim! |
The Nevada forum has always been a haven of discontent. Oh well.
Hellbringer, have a thicker skin. Joe, stop correcting people for every little thing, and get rid of the 'be safe', it's annoying. Of course these are but my opinion, and everyone is welcome to tell me to get fucked. I don't care.... and people wonder why the NV board is so dead nowadays. |
Actually there is more traffic now than before. |
Traffic maybe but actual posting seems to now be the domain of maybe 10 people. A couple of years ago when my Brother moved there and I started to spend more time in Vegas, this board rocked with tons of hard core shooters. Where did they all go? Now it seems to be the domain of a few people who use it as a personal "blog" talking about everything BUT shooting. |
I haven't been shooting in a long time myself, but I was part of that regular group of hardcore shooters awhile back. Work hijacked me, though it appears to be easing up again. That said, I think the problem was a combination of things, all pretty much starting with rumors of the Sloan site closing. Local LEOs allegedly started harassing the shooters out there, and we started losing participation. Then the site finally closed (it's posted now) and it has taken awhile for the new shooting location to catch on. I also think that most of the Uzi folks, of which there were a lot, have been posting mostly on the Uzi Talk board. Once the new shooting spot starts rocking again, I'm sure the content of this forum will pick up. These things take time, but are all too quick to unravel. -Caver |

get fucked gunbert. be safe, ARin |
Care to name the "hard core shooters" your refering to? |
LOL. Wondered how long that would take. When are you coming shooing with us? I want my sling, beeotch! |
I can name several... Hey, you need to come over and look at my pool... I think they fucked some of it up and I need a member of the 81st chlorinators to come and assess the situation. |
Yea, but your here as a regular posting member as much as we have tried to get rid of you. |
DUDE!!! i had no idea you jerks were shootin on sunday!!! i ended up going to the gay ass Boulder City range! seriously dude, i need to get my numbers in some of you folks cell phones so you can let me know what is goin down! |
I'd be a little uptight too, if I still lived in the PRK.
Be safe Barrelburner |
Well maybe the "hardcore shooters" are to busy shootin to be on the internet. As for the pool.....give me a day and time and I'll static line jump into the drop zone. |

Don't take subgunner's low post count as a sign of ignorance. He leaked out more knowledge during his last trip to the latrine than YOU'LL ever know about full auto weapons. I can assure you he knows the difference between a submachine gun and a machinegun as he owns several very nice examples of each. In fact, he's currently involved in manufacturing and marketing several submachine and machinegun accessories. When a guy like subgunner takes the time to post and a guy like you makes such a pinhead statement, you should check yourself (and throughly) before you put your ass in your mouth. You may also be surprised to learn that subgunner's score was the best of the day at the last match... as it often is. You should probably give Tony a heads up. Please read the title of his match report from 9-11-05. It's obvious from the report header that Mr. Dee could also use your wisdom. Many of us here have benefited from your knowledge, and I'm sure Tony could glean much from your experience as well. MACHINE GUN MATCH 9/11/05 TONY DEE A very nice morning for the start of the new season. A Sub-gun match was put on with the return of the notorious RODENT TARGETS. In the first run the rodents all had to be neutralized without hitting surrounding good guys and pins. Several other targets had to be engaged also. In the second run the Rodents had to be spared and all surrounding targets had to be engaged. It was difficult and the shooter had to be very careful not to hit the no-shoot targets and incur penalties. A team event was held after the main match that was great fun. Next month will be a TWO gun match. All you need to bring is a SUBGUN, the other gun and ammo for it will be provided. The match will be held on OCTOBER 9th at 0900 setup 0800. Also the match will be held on RANGE 10 as the THREE GUN CHAMPIONSHIP will be held on range 3 Hope to see you there. Yeah, I'm being a smart ass, but I think you get my point. Lighten up already, nobody's perfect here... not even you! Be Safe -Out! |

You're right! Maybe the hall monitor can lead the group hug? We'd probably scew it up on our own...
methinks that ishoottolive was offering friendly advice...and not attempting to berate anyone...
and i also agree that subgunner probably has more classIII knowledge in his pinky toe than most of us put together.. He developed and produces the beta steel beta mag towers that you may or may not have seen on the EE. There should be no hard feelings. The nevada crew gets along pretty well. |
+1 on all of it, we all have quirks, if you have a problem with someone just come to one of the dinners and settle it. Uh....not with violence. |
I think ALL you guys are picking on me due to my low post count.
I'll try to keep my unsolicited and unwanted comments to myself unless I have something CONSTRUCTIVE to add to the board. If I own a transferable full auto weapon that is registered in multiple calibers, both rifle and pistol, is it a machinegun or a submachine gun? Does it's designation change when I switch uppers, barrels, bolts, or mags? |
As you can see, I have about 50 more posts than you and thus am 75% smarter than you are. According to the 1934 NFA, the answer to your question depends on what the status of said weapon was at the end of the previous lunar cycle. If the weapon was in pistol caliber configuration at that time and then changed to rifle caliber before the start of the next cycle then the correct term for it would be "post-submachine gun". If the reverse was true then the correct term would be, of course, PRE-submachine gun. Hope this helps |
I would assume that the weapon's designation would be determined by whatever caliber that the platform was "designed" to use. |
