Hi everyone :) my name is Sam, i'm 26, I live in Kalifornia at the moment, near Sacramento (GO KINGS!!)
Needless to say I hate this state. I hate the people running it. I hate the laws that govern it. I hate the high gas, housing, insurance, cost of living prices that are always some of the most outrageous in the nation. I need out of this place before I go nuts!

What I would like to do is just pick up and move. But since I know no one in the city, that may prove to be a little difficult.

Would some of you mind hooking me up with some links to websites that offer jobs, housing, etc?
Is work fairly easy to find in Vegas?
Basically any advice you all could offer as far as finding a job and place to live would be great. I plan on going down in a few weeks to scout the area out and hopefully turn in a bunch of apps.. Assuming I find a job i'm sooo there! :)

God I cant wait to move and buy my lst AR...
The Bushy XM-15 A4 Carbie is looking pretty good right about now

You are welcome to visit us.  IMO, find a job then look for an apartment near by.  You can move to a house later on if you want.  We moved here 3 1/2 years ago.  It is one of the best decisions we ever made.  There's a "community" of shooters who I can hook you up with.  They are great folks.

There is work here but the casinos are not hiring like they used to.  But this is still a boom town and they are building houses and shopping centers like crazy.

E-mail me if you want at [email protected]

MOVE! NOW!!!!!

Good, now that that is settled we can focus on the details.  I moved my family a year and a half ago from LA and we have not regretted it for a moment.  Our situation is a little different as we had spent a lot of time in Vegas over the years.  My wife is from So. Utah and I from LA so Vegas was always a meeting spot and we already had some family living here.  California is just unlivable now.  On every level it is a state that has become a parasite living off the blood of those who live there.  Economically, socially, politically, all across the board, people's freedoms are under attack in California.  I have said before that firearms laws was not the only reason for moving to Nevada but it is in the top 5!  Las Vegas in particular is a thriving city.  There is a sense of community here that goes beyond the shooting community.  Problems are addressed and people take things seriously in my experience.  In terms of quality of living, Vegas is second to none.  There is so much to do here you can't believe it sometimes.  On the subject of jobs, that depends.  What do you do?  Are you flexible?  Depending on you answers, finding work can be as difficult or as easy as anywhere else.  If you wanted to work as a local route driver for a wholesale distributor, I could get you an interview tomorrow.  If you are an accountant, I could get you an interview(s) tomorrow.  If you have 3 DUI's on your record and cant add, then you are on your own!  It all depends on the package.  I will say this about Vegas and the job market, if you are good at what you do, whatever it is, you should not have too many problems.  Good people are hard to find and employers know it.
As for the shooting?  It is great!  Great people and lots of opportunities to get together.  If you are planning to come out to check us out, Let us know the dates and I am sure you will have 5 offers to meet up with you and play with our toys.  Your first offer is from me.  If you want to discuss particulars of anything I have said just IMail me and we will talk.  Good Luck!
Richard

wow i'm feelin the love :)
I have given it alot of thought and I'm sure I am going to move. My mind is made up. Just need to get some more $$ together before I can do it. As far as what I do, I'm a sat dish installer for dish network, I have done alot of hands on type work, cable/phone/sat, and computer building/repair, about 7 years exp.  I am pretty flexible as far as hours/jobs. Really as long as it pays decently, I can make it work. (Driving record is spotless as well)
You guys are so cool offering to meet up with me and even let me shoot your guns :)
I am working out the particulars of how/when I'm gonna get down there to do some scouting, but most likely in a month or so. I will let you guys know once its set in stone.

Sam,

We sound like we're in the same boat!  I'm living in SoCal right now and will be moving to Las Vegas in October. I have family there already and I work in the hotel industry. I have already done a lot of fact finding and one of the best resources I've found is the link above to the Las Vegas Review Journal website. There are great resources for jobs and housing as well as a relocation guide with all the links you will need.

I already moved all of my fun toys out to my in-laws in NV, so I visit a lot and get in as much shooting as possible. All of the people I have met who post here are great guys. I am looking forward to finally making the move after so much planning. Good luck and keep in touch.

Hey Steve, Long time no hear.  I am glad to hear that your plans are still on.  Too bad we got screwed out of that Sunday a couple of months ago.  Did you see the video of the last shoot.....we were rocking!  Hope to see you soon, take care.

So, youre dying to escape ol Kalistan as well huh?
Things are looking pretty bleak for this state what with the budget screwed up as badly as it is and all. Glad to hear youre getting out and going to Nevada too. I look forward to meeting you guys when I finally get my butt out there :D

Sam - there are a lot of other Kalifornians moving out to NV along with us. Too many of them are not what I would call like-minded individuals. They would like to turn our new home into their old one - so lets do what we can to keep it free.

Rick - I haven't posted in a while, but I check in at least a few times a week. I don't even pay attention to the CA hometown forum - why look back? It looks like the group ammo buy went well.  Ken (my father in-law) and I will definitely be in on the next one. Just let us know. Are you going to Rachel this weekend? I'm going to be in the Vegas area. We're planning on hitting the Cashman show on Saturday and will probably go shooting at Sloan Sunday morning. I'm thinking fairly early in the morning so that I can still do the good son-in-law thing all day mothers day.  Let me know if you or anyone wants to meet up.  Honestly, I'm not trying to hijack this one!
