Can anyone suggest a "good" ... ok, "great" AR gunsmith in the central part of the state?  I'm working on building a M-4-ish carbine, but want a look-over and clean bill of mechanical health before I send rounds downrange.

None that I am aware of. good luck finding anyone. you'd be better off sending it out of state to someone who does specialize in AR's and has a good rep. Around here it's pretty limited to guswo mount ad borescope deer hunting rifles.
