Just curious how many from the board have been there.  I went up this morning to try out a couple of 1911s.  There were about 8 people there, and I saw enough safety violations to make me cringe.  Guy with an AR sweeps his companions with the barrel (I hope it wasn't loaded).  Another guy walks 10 feet in front of the firing line to shoot, while the guy with the AR has the barrel pointed generally down range.  Bunch of fvcking idiots.

When I'm in that neck of the woods, I usually just shoot at the Boulder Rifle club

At least it is safe there!

I go there a couple of times a month but usually only during the week when everybody else is at work.
You came over and talked to me when I was there trying to get my new Jewel trigger to quit doubling on me.
Did You get your .458 upper yet?

I went 4x4ing there last Nov.  I was surprised that guns were allowed that near the PRB (peoples republic of boulder).  That and there were many of the above safety violations occuring.  My folks live near there.

It's just northwest out of the city of Boulder, into the mountains. Runs by gold hill and some of the old mining towns.
-- I had heard that the forest service had closed down the "ranges" and were fining shooters. Is that incorrect? Another question-How about the Boulder rifle club? Is it open to non-members? Where can I find out what the availability schedule is? Thanks, Sean

No fines that I've heard of, but the first area to shoot at has been closed down. If you have a 4x4 you can drive back in farther to shoot at the end. The other spots farther down the road are still open as far as I know. The first spot was closed down because of the ATV's and 4 wheelers using that area also. I've had some of those BMX bikers drive right in front of us while firing, CRAZY!

Northwind:

Boulder is open to non-members during matches.  Boulder runs a highpower program on the 200 yd reduced target.

Hi Lugnut,

Still waiting on the upper.  Will probably have to wait even longer for ammo for it.

Hope to see you up there again sometime.  Think I've just about given up on shooting up there on weekends.

Northwind,

If you're reasonably young (say 20's or early 30's), you might get into the Boulder Rifle Club before you retire if you apply now.  They limit membership to 500 and have a waiting list of about the same size.
