Is it legal to spend a few months in the San Juan Mountains camping and living
off the land or will the law lock you up.

Damn, I don't think I've ever known anybody that was
so stupid they didn't know what living off the land meant.

Seriously, they infest many national forest roads.   But their numbers obvious will decrease with distance from the front range, and I haven't been out to the SJ region since it got cold.

Mind your manners, noob.  I'm asking what YOU think it means.  Gonna poach game?  Rustle cattle?  Eat pine needles?  Break into cabins?  I've seen your sort before, it usually doesn't end well.  And yeah, we get pot 'tourist' bums in the mountains every year.  They tend to be criminals.  Sometimes they start forest fires, from negligence, idiocy or ill will.  Sometimes their bones are found months or years later, or maybe never.

It was a fair question, and you handled it poorly.

You may want to visit elsewhere. It would be appreciated.

Start by reading Into the Wild.  Maybe skip CO and go straight to AK.  If that doesn’t seem feasible, consider trying the San Juans in the winter first. Kthxbye

Bunch of god damned savages up in here.

As you can tell OP, the CO Natives are more than sick of the shit birds flocking here.

Perhaps AK is a safer choice for you.

And op you haven't seen savage until a forest ranger finds you have a garden plot in a national forest.

And while BLM agents are fewer and farther between they won't be impressed by a garden plot on their land either.

Makes me think of that Dutch azzwhole who burnt 100k acres in So CO.  His visa had expired and he hated America yet he choose to play hippie in a trailer.  Idjit left a fire going unattended overnight and then fanned it w/a blanked to try to extinguish it.  La Veta was partially evacuated.

Found it.  Spring Creek Fire.  It was  a Dane, not Dutch.   108k acres burned. https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/largest-fires-on-record-in-colorado-history/ar-BB17Ynwt
