I know having a loaded pistol in your car is A-OK with Colorado law, but upon reading the CO laws more I am wondering if having a rifle unloaded but specifically in reach of the driver is ok here.
Have any of you ever been stopped by the police and they have seen a rifle near you? What did they say or do?

A rifle's ok - unloaded. It's a hunting/poaching thing. Think rifle racks in pickup truck rear windows- definitely within reach.

Unloaded in Colorado means not having a round in the chamber, but the magazine can be filled.

Correct.

I have been stopped while having a rifle in the truck. Cop didn't have a problem at all. Didn't even care it was there. Well within reach. Also been stopped by DOW with a rifle immediately on my right, no comments about it.

I was told today that some law had changed making rifles in the gun rack on the window were illegal now. I didnt belive it. As long as there is no round in the chamber it is ok to have a rifle in the rack right?

Ask the person for a source or call the local PD and ask. Who told you this?

I think this is flat out wrong.

I've been living in CO for 15 years now and it has never been a issue. For those of us with trucks we don't have much of a choice. For those that get caught poaching it is a pretty serious offense here. For the most part CO is a very friendly state to gunowners( unless you live in the Peoples Republik of Boulder or Peoples Republik of Denver).

Actually, I know more guys in Boulder that have Class 3 weapons than anywhere else in Colorado-mostly MP5s and suppressed MP5s. I don't know if Epp is still the sheriff, but he had no problem signing off on the cool stuff.

That sounds about right for Boulder. It seems they're either way on one side of the fence or the other. I know some great people that live up there because of the area- they just can't stand all the lefty's! I think one of the new MOAB's would be kind of neat........
