Just an FYI, the Triangle Pit in the Capitol Forest will be closed temporarily dates TBD for logging in areas adjacent to the pit or requiring log hauling through the pit.

Starting the 19th, the Pit is closed until further notice due to nearby logging activity.

just when I was planning to go, if only for something different to do. Makes me wonder if it will ever reopen.

This is the lower pit, correct? Once upon a time there was an upper pit and the lower pit, but that was about 30 years ago.

TARGET SHOOTING
Capitol State Forest has areas closed to target shooting. The Triangle Pit hours have changed, and it is now open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m on weekends only for the next few weeks due to forest management operations starting Feb. 17, 2021.

Target shooting is not allowed:
On a 5-mile corridor on the C-Line, starting from D-4000 up to Low Bank Pit
On the D-4000 between the C-Line and D-Line

Thanks for the information, I wasn't aware they would allow the pit to open during the weekends. It will definitely reopen when the timber harvest is complete.
