Do these forces always escort the ferries in and out of their berths?
Or were my observations for a few days last week of training exercises  and not an everyday occurrence?
They sure don't seem to mind their pictures being taken.

That's 'cuz you don't see the .50's and other assorted fun stuff observing you and everyone else.
USCG is more than you know...be wary.

More than likely exercises. My be a threat they stepped up on but more than likely not.

Every once in a while the Coast Guard will escort ferries from dock to dock.
The Ferries fall under the Coast Guard even though they are part of the state transportation system.

Shortly after 9/11 they escorted every ferry trip. Very expensive proposition. Escorts were changed to random days/times/routes.

It would be cheaper to put 2 coasties on each ferry, with light machine guns.
