The words cheap and diesel don't go together.

Please define cheap.
I can find VW TDI motors if needed.

maybe a wecked car? What kind and years to go after? Under $2000.00 needs to be a inline 4 or 6 cyl. I know i can get 6.9 ford motors all day long for less than $1500 but they are too big and heavy.

Thanks

Damn.  You were just a little too late for this: http://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/pts/1379162942.html

Low mileage 1.6 Diesel engine (approx 40K) Runs excellent , recently serviced ,all glow plugs and injectors are good $850.00 FIRM

Probably not 100hp, though.  My 2000 TDI only had 90 before I started tinkering.

Here's one: http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/pts/1378868640.html

"MERCEDES BENZ" DIESEL ENGINE & AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

1981 NON TURBO DIESEL,THIS MOTOR HAS 162,000 ORIGINAL MILES!

You can normally find an older Cummins 6BT for under $1500.  I don't know what the 4BT's go for.  I do know they can occasionally be had for cheap.  I know a guy swapping a 4BT into a jeep.  He picked the motor up for about $500.  He found it on CL.

A couple other places that often have motors listed:
Turbo Diesel Register
Diesel Truck Riesource
Cummins Forum

All three of these are national sites that have classifieds.  Search for 1st or 2nd gen motors.

Come to think of it, could you use a small fork lift? Propane powered, complete with bad brakes - a.k.a. no workie.
Friend of mine has it. I know I can get it for CHEAP!

You might try calling around to some of the local boat shops.  Lots of old tubs getting cut up these days.

a Brush grinder that goes on the front of my 863 Bobcat Link but with its own power plant. My expirinace says those that run off the axilary hydrulics on a skid steer will be under powered, and I have a high flow machine.

Also thinking about building a big bad stump grinder.

Actually, my question was more about what vehicle it came out of since I wasnt aware they put the POS non turbo  6.2L in the HMMWV. I thought maybe he'd made a typo but you keep on being yerself, dont mind the rest of us.

So tell me how many, as you say, "POS" 6.2L have you owned... My blazer has well over 250,000 miles and still runs strong and still only uses 1qt of oil every 3000 miles.... and a 6.2 with a Banks turbo will blow away a factory turbo 6.5... and so you know the 6.5 is almost idenacal... Most of the what was changed was in the heads.

Ive had one stock 6.2L and then I bought a 6.5L . Adding a Banks Turbo sorta changes the equation dont ya think?

I thought the Hummers got the NA 6.5?

The 6.2 is a good diesel.. it's a true light duty diesel.. not a medium duty diesel(ala Cummins 5.9 or IH 6.9/7.3) shoe horned into a light duty truck. There are lots of them running around with high miles and running strong. I think a lot of the issues people have with them stem from the fact to many people are too lazy for an older diesel and not many people know how to work on them and end up causing more problems than fixing them.

Semi

Medium duty referring to trucks with a GVWR under 26k.

GM's 6.2/6.5 was way out classed by the International and Cummins diesels that Ford and Dodge used, and I think that's at least part of the stigma associated with them. Don't forget the Olds Diesel

I will agree with the light duty aspect kind of on par with a small block, but I would also say they are on par with the 6.9l. I think the 6.9 had more problems than the 6.2 with the cylinder porosity. The real problem with the 6.2 GM and 6.9 IH is they are not the fastest things around... 150 DIESEL HP... not the same thing as 150 GAS HP... and a diesel with worthless without a turbo!

Anyway the HMMWV first had the 6.2 and when GM stop making the 6.2 they moved to the 6.5. When GM stopped making the 6.5 in 2000 AM General bought the 6.5 rights. They made some changes like making the bottom end stronger. The new (2008) 6.5 from AM General if fucking awesome! I want to get my hands on one of them... Forged cranks, new alloy for the block and other imprvments... they now say 250 HP with 550 FT LB of toqure.... All in the 6.2/6.5 package... I would love to put one of them in my blazer. Then get an 4L80E... Bet I would get 25 MPG
